First the beauty of the flower, then the fun.This one is perfect to have someone try to pick as it is just waiting to burst open. You can see the dark seeds just ready to be exploded out into the woods to start a new plant next year.

Every year, the grandkids and I go out to have fun pinching the seed pods to get the little thrill of nature's way of perpetuating a species, We spent hours along a roadside out East once after finding the biggest, fattest seed pods ever. Nature has so many wonderful surprises for us if we just look.

Fall is not only "Fall Foliage". Many places in the world see Fall differently than in north America. In the fall, millions of birds pass by over Israel on their yearly journey from Europe to Africa. Some of them stay here for the winter.

I have discovered many life lessons in my garden. Here, about a month before the first snowfall, a gazania continues to bloom cheerfully und unafraid. The stake looks worn with time, begging the question: who is supporting whom?

(Such a fun guy!) ~ what the girl toadstool said about the boy toadstool. ~ Here a cluster of amanita muscaria add a splash of colour to the ground already decorated with beech leaves that have turned copper with autumn. And yes, although they are lovely to look at, they are definitely not to be eaten. They are poisonous!

Even though it's late in the season, there were still plenty colored leaves around. Somehow the way the sun lit up these leaves stuck me - so I took a shot.

Looks like we do get a few days rest from the dark and gray winter weather. The sun has come out of its hiding place again - and lit up these colorful leaves.

It's official: Nature has acknowledged that Summer is over and Fall is about to start. Can't wait to see the fall colors!

Mount Rainier National Park, WA: Deer I surprised while they were having breakfast. Sorry if the picture's a little blurry, it was still rather dark, which makes for slow shutter speeds. Needless to say, these deer didn't wait for me to get my tripod out. Chosen by Patty (pattypoo115) and Ginger (oceanloves).

I love the beauty of the wild asters, the small bud to the left is so detailed (no sharpening of the photo) it looks fuzzy. If not for the busy bee the bud would have stolen the spotlight.

After an autumnal storm, a fallen leaf epitomizes the coming season!

My interpretation of a classic theme! Useless to say that the area of Barolo is only few miles away from my hometown.

Barolo is known as the King of Wines and the Wine of Kings. Barolo is also a small village that gives its name to a very limited area where this specific Nebbiolo grape is grown. A grape leaf stands agains the Autumnal sunlight to symbolize the most important seasonal crop!

This past Fall, I had the opportunity to visit the state of New Hampshire and came along this scene on one of the lakes. It was a beauty.

One of my favorite things about fall is the beautiful evening glow. This one was just amazing.

Something that signals fall long before the trees change colors.

Last, but not least, fall brings the best colors out.

The plant is high in certain antioxidants. The fruit is noted for its high vitamin C level.

Each year in September the sedum in our backyard "hosts" a plethora of butterflies and bumble bees if and when the sun is shining. The little, delicate beauties seem to be enjoying themselves on the sedum. And I certainly had fun taking pictures of them :-).

My daughter carved this masterpiece last Halloween.

Amonetia Mascera mushrooms come out in force during the autumn months on the central Oregon Coast.

The basket is not full, we really had fun eating them.

It is fun to pick plums in the garden, especially when you are not of the ladder height. That is the fruit of this challenge.

This carpet of coloured leaves, whose softness creates a wonderful feeling with the nature, was photographed in a park in Monza, Italy.

A lonely leaf "sails" in a fountain, creating nice reflections in the autumnal water.

Big and beautiful, the sunflower feeds many small creatures with its pollen and seeds.

The thistle, beautiful as it may be has a 'cringe' factor for those who raise cattle or those who have tried to rid their lawns of this prickly plant.

The tickseed sunflower grows like carpet by the roadside in September and is mowed down to keep the roadways 'neat'.

View of the 17th-century pink sandstone farmhouse at Tan House Farm, in the village of Abbey Dore (in the Golden Valley, Herefordshire, in England near the Welsh border). The ivy (Virginia creeper) that covers the wall is bright red in mid-October and glows in the morning sunshine.

Golden autumn afternoons and evenings reward walks in the countryside. A view of the Black Mountains, in the Brecon Beacons National Park, South Wales, from the valley of the River Usk, early on an evening in mid-October.

Fountain in the lagoon in Audubon Park, in New Orleans (Louisiana, US), seen from a gazebo. The signs of fall in New Orleans tend to be subtle. The biggest change is the arrival of cool weather that gives people a burst of energy and sends many out for walks in the park. In late November, the swamp cypress trees are turning brown, while Chinese tallows (Triadica sebifera) are turning gold, orange, and red. (Late September, however, is still summer for us ...)

autumn is late in Israel. It brings what we need most: rain. There is nothing like the smell of the earth during and after the first rain. When it happend at daylight you can see people dancing in the rain.

There were some more colorful leaves around, but I desaturated them all to underline those two leaves, then I added a bit of sepia for autumn.

The Fig tree looses its leaves at the end of the year.

Grapes are ripe in the Bernex vineyards. Next year, you will be able to drink their wine!
