My son's Magnolia tree was in full bloom. It was gloomy that day so I converted my picture to black and white except for a couple blossoms.

My mom's little garden angel is soaking up the morning sunlight - patiently waiting for the flowers to grow. She needs a spring bath!

Perfect Australia day meal

A sunny day for a picnic in my garden. Little bread with egg and bread with hamburger, and for good health an apple and... cappuccino hmmmmmm.

Chesse is one of my avorite things to eat. I can't say I like wine very well. But before I became a widow I was married to an italian. His father every year made homemade wine from their grape vinyard. I thought one of his aged wine bottles along with the cheese made a good still life shot.

With some empty wine bottles, and the blue bacground, and some good cheese makes this stunning picture a winner.

This is an arrangement I created last fall and used a special lighting. With the dark background I used it makes it so the pumpkin just jumps out at you.

I posted this as a still life challenge and got so many emails and comments saying that I need to enter it in creative lighting challenge so I decided to follow their comments.

When I am not out photographing a sunset or sunrise and I'm not writing another chapter in my novel, I love to create in the kitchen. The patterns food makes has always intrigued me.

I was wondering what to do for this challenge when I started looking around our home and found this one in a guest bedroom just as I captured it. My wife, Candy, sets thing up like this the way she decorates our cabin style home.

Found this still life on my front porch compliments of my wife's decorating again. Pop the stopper on the barrel and smell the fine old Jack Daniels whiskey. Maybe the chicken has been sniffing the barrel already.

Birds were chirping on a soft, cool breeze... the sweet scent of plumeria filled the air as sunlight filtered down through the trees.

Through purchases by the City and gifts from individuals, under the directorship of Paul R. Weissich (1957-89), Foster Garden expanded to over 13.5 acres.

A mock up of Capt Vancouvers cabin. The cloak is intended for King Kamehamea of Hawaii. Vancouver was there as a midshipman with Cook 13 years earlier. Then he had saved one Officer & next day had negotiated for return of Cook's body. When Hawaiians boarded Discovery they rejoiced to see Vancouver as he best understood them! Also to be seen is a picture of 'Kings Lynn from the east' taken on every voyage after Vancouvers father had died. A strong box for money, Barrel of glass beads for trading & stone jars of pigments for making paints.

I am a nursery nurse working in a school with 4 1/2 year olds. I work between 2 classrooms of 60 children. They are hard work but I love them to bits. These are their colouring pencils.

This is my prize model horse. He has NAN'd twice but the last two times I've taken him out he breaks something. He has a slightly glossy finish-and with all his detail it makes for a tough picture. Live shows only!

After I took the picture I was amazed by how it looked.

One of my daughters brought this home from P.E.I. many years ago. It is one of the symbols of the island. Both my daughters were going to college in Charlottetown at that time.

My parents have an old tire rim on the post of the deck to wrap the hose around and recently my mom found a robin had made a nest behind it with three pretty little eggs. I took a few pics and this is the best one. I didn't disturb the nest, don't worry. lol

After a long hot day in the Sun the Delicate Rose welcomes the refreshing tiny raindrops touching it's delicate petals.

I love these snowmen and had received 25 roses for our 25th wedding anniversary. The pink and the blue go together so well so I just played around with these figures until I got something that I liked.

Natalia and her husband, Jordan, were married on August 9/03. It's hard to believe that one of these days, there will be another tiny baby ... theirs!

With lights sparkling in the State Dining Room, music, fellowship, food and all, the mantles each had unusual, stunning decorations. This one, with hundreds of fresh cut roses shaped as spheres, reminded me of Christmas and the season loved by folks of all ages. This was MY first selection for a photo representing the joys of the holiday season. It still sends chills up and down my spine!

My interpretation of a classic theme! Useless to say that the area of Barolo is only few miles away from my hometown.

After an autumnal storm, this fallen leaf just became still life!

Still life is the art of depicting objects or inanimate plants or animals. This is an object and therefore should be inanimate by nature. But in this case I have frozen in time its moment of glory, one in a lifetime I would say!

A still life is a work of art depicting inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace objects which may be either natural (food, plants and natural substances like rocks) or man-made (drinking glasses, cigarettes, pipes, hotdogs and so on) in an artificial setting. Popular in Western art since the 17th century, still life paintings give the artist more leeway in the arrangement of design elements within a composition than do paintings of other types of subjects such as landscape or portraiture. These beautiful roses were a gift from a girlfriend I hadn't seen in a while. When they opened up they were just stunning.

Gathered some of my kitchen decor and some fruit for an arrangement.

From my orange tree and my neighbors lemon tree, I decided to stacking and peeling one of the fruits.

The sundial is the oldest known device for the measurement of time and the most ancient of scientific instruments. It is based on the fact that the shadow of an object will move from one side of the object to the other as the sun “moves” from east to west during the day.

The feathers were placed in a jug and a dark blue blanket placed behind them. I then used a slow shutter speed witht he camera mounted on a tripod and used a halogen bicycle light to create the different effects throughout the album. Just a bit of an experiment really!

These were on a shelf in a coffee shop. The colors and repetition appealed to me.

She went through 3 seasons, Spring, Summer and Autumn and finally her time came to settle on the forest floor.

My mother had an oil painting of a fruit bowl hanging in our kitchen for many years, and I always loved the light and shadows in it. I thought of that painting as I was photographing this pear. An impression from my childhood that has never left me.

Some of the stones I collected 40 years ago, others 26 years ago. I keep them in jars on my window sill and sometimes I add water to bring out their wonderful colors. I took this shot on March 17, 2008, a sunny day, love those sun rays on the window sill. Outside we had a lot of snow.(p0230-466k)

While living in Wisconsin, we drove often alongside Lake Michigan and enjoyed walking the beaches. Occasionaly we found a beach with many different colored stones. Little things can be so much fun. (p0226-407k)

The sea urchin was a gift from a dear friend of mine. She has passed away many years ago; but whenever I look at the sea urchin, great memories come back to me. (p2636-256k)

My daughter and son-in-law gave us a two night stay at a bed and breakfast as a thank-you gift for helping pay for their wedding. This is a coffee mug and plate which was commemorating the Inn's 20th anniversary. Oops, do I get extra points for leaving some syrup on the plate?

The background for this photo was made from a thick insulation foam board which I then put contact paper on so as to make a more pleasing look for the photo.

Armenia is famous with "khachkar"s, which is translated as "cross-stones". This wonderful sculpting art dates back to centuries and it is said that one can't find two similar "khachkar"s.

The Yuelu Academy is located on the east side of Yuelu Mountain in Changsha, Hunan province on the west bank of the Xiang River. Little daisies near Guthrie Creek. They just opened a new trail there, great "Lost Coast" scenery - check the tides before you go!

This picture was taken yesterday (Sunday) especially for the Challenge. I wanted to create a very classical Still Life, so I headed to the grocery, bought some fruit (and focused more on their appearance than "yumminess", of course), came home, set up my "portable studio" (a small table, a display cardboard, a free-standing lamp, a large piece of black velvet fabric, the tripod and the camera), and started having fun arranging and rearranging the position of the fruit "basket". I added some curly parsley, also, for some green. Best of all: since yesterday I've been eating healthier!

I wanted to surprise my husband, some time ago, so I reserved a cozy cabin close to Lyons (Colorado), ordered some roses and Champaign, and carried a bag filled with all kinds of candles (which I packed and put in the car without him noticing it). The hotel provided the vase with the ribbon, as well as the glasses (well, they were plastic ones, but we should never ask for perfection, correct?). As my husband ran to Lyons to buy something he had forgotten, I arranged the table and took the chance to shoot some pictures.

This arrangement was composed with some objects that have a special value to me. The crystal jar was my Mom's, and I remember telling her that this little jar was the only material thing I wanted her to let me as inheritance. And so she did. The little artificial flowers were from my wedding. The candles, from that special weekend in Lyons with my husband some time ago. Interesting: when I saw the picture, I realized that the right candle together with the handle of the jar kinda look like a swan.

From the corning museum of glass, this sculpture (?) was huge and remarkable. Truly a work of art and very colorful. I did not note the artist. �2005 J. Holzschuh

The Moon Marble Factory in Bonner Springs has cases and cases of beautiful marble treasures. The shopper is tempted on every side.

Find the octopus, pretty little (mer)maids all in a row, sharks and beetles. You are only limited by your imagination.

Set off against the dark background the lily offers its beauty and aroma for all who pass by.

The Great Buddha of Kamakura (Daibutsu in Japanese) in Japan is a representation of Buddha Amitaba the Lord of the Western Pure Land. The bronze statue of Amita Buddha, which is worshipped by the followers of the Pure Land sect of Buddhism as a savior, was cast in 1252 and is Kamakura's most important tourist site. Once housed in a huge hall, the statue today sits in the open, the original temple having been washed away by a tsunami in 1495. Cast in bronze and weighing close to 850 tons, the statue is 13.35 meters tall. The latest repairs to the Buddha were completed in 1960. These strengthened the neck and made it possible for the Buddha's body to move freely on the base to prevent a damaging shock to the statue in case of an earthquake. The Daibutsu sits there in the open air, his head looming above the pine trees, and his face turned toward the peaceful waters of the ocean typical of the dreamland Nirvana. The statue is a patchwork of pieces of bronze, the surface being finished up with the file. There are distinctive characteristics in each part of the body of the statue: The eye is horizontal The eyebrow is semi-circular There is a white curl on the forehead that emits rays of light revealing all worlds in the universe. It is made of pure silver weighing 13.5 kgs. The mouth has a Ionian smile The ridge of the nose starts from the forehead which retains something of Greek-Art The hair is made of a number of curls winding clockwise. There are about 656 curls altogether. The legs are crossed and inclined slightly forward The pose expresses the usual way of meditating on the part of Indians, and it is still adopted for meditation by Japanese Buddhists, especially by the followers of Zen.
