On my last trip to Ireland, I watched the sun come up on Galway Bay.

I guess it takes the excitement of traveling in a faraway land to get me out of bed by sunrise. This photo was taken in Ireland, behind our motel on Galway Bay.

Being a night person, I don't have many sunrise shots. This photo was taken on a trip to Prince Edward Island. As the full moon dimmed and sunk into the horizon, I captured this sunrise shot from our cabin. The Confederation bridge, which connects PEI and New Brunswick, can be seen on the horizon.

This sunrise was taken at the location for the steamy scene between Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr in the film "From Here To Eternity", thus the title of the photograph. "As scripted, Deborah Kerr and Burt Lancaster's classic clinch on the beach was to be filmed standing up. It was Lancaster's idea to do it horizontally in the surf. The scene was filmed at Halona Cove on the eastern side of Oahu, near Koko Head Crater and Sandy Beach, and the location became a major tourist attraction for years after." If you look closely, you will notice the island of Molokai to the right of the rising sun which is ascending out of Haleakala (House of the Sun) Crater on the island of Maui. This photograph is dedicated to the beauty of the late Deborah Kerr who passed away on October 16th two weeks after it was taken .

It was early, but the view was spectacular. The Atlantic Ocean was so calm, it looked like a lake with soft lapping of the ocean waves along the shoreline. The sky was beautiful with its rich red-pink-yellowish colors.

Where I live, this is how far the sun reaches up from behind the mountain in the winterly part of the year. It can hardly be seen it at all.

It was a freezing morning before breakfast, but when I looked out the window I just couldn't help myself . I grabbed my camera and climbed the little mountain next to the house, just to enjoy the light.

We arrived very early in the am for our hot air balloon ride over Luxor. The first round of flights were already airborne when we arrived. This shot was taken while we were waiting for our turn in one of the balloons.

The sky looked like it was on fire as steam rose from the lake. Well worth getting out of my tent at 5am for!

Due to near gale force winds, there is a lot of salt in the air, causing the view to be hazy.

The sunrise at the top of the mountain on Haleakala Hawaii is breathtaking. At certain moments everything turns red from the brilliant hues thrown out by the rising sun. It takes getting up REALLY early to be there in time to watch this unfolding magical scenery.

Watching the sunrise above the mountain on Haleakala in Hawaii is truly amazing. You just have to miss a night's sleep to be there before it starts happening so you don't miss a second!

We were bass fishing early at Lake Casitas early in the morning. Sunrise looked so pretty I had to take a shot.

This was a view we saw, looking east from our home, in the early Florida morning. The sky was painted with glorious colors from a heavenly palette.

The morning after the August fullmoon I rose early. I'd watched the staircase to the moon the night before. I was looking for evidence of the rumor shipwrecks in the bay.

Becoming mired in the muck I changed plan. This starfish, left stranded by the low tide reflected the sun's early morning rays.

One morning this week to my delight, I saw this glowing sunrise from my bedroom window. For about five minutes, it was like fire in the distant horizon and then it was gone. I knew I didn't have time to run outside, so snapped the shot through the bedroom window. P1180485

This was worth getting up early to see!

As I drove the western sky darkened. By noon I was surrounded by an ocean mist with rain pelting the windshield. The gale shook the car. I paused my travel at a lookout above the ocean. Had I been defeated? The next morning as the eastern horizon began to glow I rolled over to check the new day. A small band of blue, bordered by intense black framed the morning sky. I quickly pulled on another layer and returned to the scenic drive. The sky began to show pink, then orange. Finally a ray of sun streamed through the distant trees dappling a lone pinnacle in the early morning glow. It was magical. I ran from spot to spot hoping the capture the intrigue of the landscape. This is what greeted my eyes!

Decided to blow this up a little. I like the glow on the ground which I didn't see before.

It was a no-red-sky kind of January morning. The sun was beginning to brighten up the sky ahead and to my right. My camera was with me and on, when I saw them. Fighting seconds, I managed to locate this incredibly fast flock on my screen, focus on them and click. Moments later they were beyond view, steadily racing southwards. Migration is a serious matter.

A Morning full of God's Glory

Greeting the day

During the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia, many of these large trees were cut down. A few though like this one were used as the site of many executions. To this day the Khmer believe the tree to be haunted by the ghosts of those who died there. Now these trees are treated as holy places and most have small shrines at their roots. To this day they give offerings of incense, candles, food and prayers.

The Sunrises at this temple bring in droves of people starting at around 4:45am; it is no wonder though for this spectacular sight. This photograph although beautiful, is one of the most special that I have taken. It is said that it is impossible to capture all five of the Angkor spires, in this one photograph I acheived what was said to be impossible.

A glorious sunrise and frosted firs!. - You should have seen me walking up that hill! The firs up there were all "sugar coated" and I knew, the sun would be coming up soon. Because of the deep snow I used two poles, one in each hand, to support me. My little digital was in my coat pocket! Used just manual setting to take the photos! I was happy with the results. The sun rises to the east of the Christo Del Rey Statue. Nothing can be done about that but... When the sun begins to rise, it illuminates the face of christ and warms the mountain with it's bright rays!

We went to South Padre Island for Spring break. The first four days it rainned off and on, but wouldn't you know it, the morning of our last day there the sun finaly came out, but only during the sunrise, then it went right back to rainning. This is very inspirational to me. The sun coming out means one more beautiful day I have on our Mother Earth. The birds soar high above so freely and carefree, though, yet another THunderstorm is brewing about, the suns rays shine up to the heavens from the ocean just for a moment, which gave me peace of mind knowing that the rest of the day would be rainning once again,

As I was drivng home thursday morning after dropping Trevor off at school on our first cold morning of the year, I noticed the suns rays trying to break through the clouds...though it did not last long and ended up rainning all day, this shot was just perfectly beautiful...at least I thought so. Sunrise on Lake Superior. It did, in fact, rain later that day.

Murray River South Australia - Taken very early on a very cold winter morning. I was woken by the noisy dawn chorus of many birds in the bush, grabbed my camera and dressing gown and dashed up on to the wet houseboat roof. Everyone else was asleep, the mist had just lifted and it was the most awesome feeling, I captured a few magic shots just before and after the sun appeared. The light changed very quickly.

It was a very cold and damp winter morning, I could hardly feel my fingers, my teeth were chattering and my camera was slow to respond in the cold. The light changed very quickly but the reflection was amazing. Click.. magic moment captured forever.

It was a very cold and damp morning. I could hardly feel my fingers and my camera was slow to respond in the cold. The silence was broken by the chorus of many noisy birds and the occasional plop as a fish or frog surfaced momentarily. The reflection of the gum trees, the clouds and light was amazing. This camera did not have a decent zoom however.. Click.. magic moment captured forever. So hard to choose between these 3 shots.

This was taken through the window, looking West. You can see reflections through the window in the south, reflecting throught the West facing window. I was so surprised when I looked at this on my pc.

The animals all come out to feed right at sunrise, when not so many people are around.

This morning, the moon was in the Eastern sky and two stars were still shining.

This is just a few minutes from where I live. I love to drive by and watch the sunrise.

This is the gazebo at the docks in town. It's a beautiful place to sit and read or think.
