Ground water in slow motion trickles down the cliffs in winter and forms ice water falls to clim
published by: harmonynow
A different take on water in motion. Everyone thinks about fast moving water for action shots of water in motion. Slow motion ground water trickling down a mountain side also gives a different effect in winter. You get ice water falls. Fun to ice climb for some. Is this what they mean by "saturation"?
published by: faranya100
The "gauzy" look is actually a very heavy downpour. I was just about to step into the tub when I glanced out the bathroom window and spotted this doe across the river. I threw on a housecoat (mainly to protect the camera) and gumboots in order to get right out there - despite a thunderstorm overhead. I live dangerously. Thank goodness I don't have close neighbors. the coast of the Mediterranean
published by: 854847
Looking south from the Lebanese border. On clear days you can see Akko and even Haifa far away at the horizon. The view point and the border is at a quite high place. From there you have a wonderful view on northern Israel. Down on the rocks along the coast we saw fishermen. I tried to get them closer with my zoom. The result of the zoom you can see on the next picture.

Alex splashing in the tub
published by: nanagahma
This is my grandson Alex at age 2 1/2. We were telling him to say "cheese", and everytime he did that, he would clap his water filled hands and the tub water would spray all over the place! So here he is, saying "cheese", with his eyes closed. He looks rather glee-ful! And yes, I was getting all wet in the process. I told him that Nana had already had her shower for the day, but that didn't matter, he just kept clapping his hands and spraying water. You can see little droplets of water on his hands, on the tiled wall, and on the side of the tub. Also, the bath water is in motion.

Water test 2
published by: sk8photoMAX
The blues are real, I use a circular polarizing filter to bring out the clouds and up the blue content, this is also giving a bounce back from the sky, the sun is almost to the horizon out of shot on the left, the sun is lower than the cloud bank on the right which is reflecting back into the sea, please note that this was not achievable in one exposure, I have combined three exposures, rocks, sea, sky to get the right combination.

In 1912, Simon Benson, lumberman, commissioned 20 drinking fountains. The bubblers offer visitors something cold on the streets to quench their thirst. It was claimed that after the fountains were installed, saloon sales decreased 40%. By 1917, there were 40 fountains. There are now 52 four-bowl bubblers. With a total 128 drinking fountains throughout Portland include 76 single-bowl variations of the four-bowl Benson Bubblers.

Sea Fever
published by: knuzdenwitch
I must go down to the sea again, to the lonely sea and the sky, and all I ask is a tall ship, and a star to steer her by, and the wheels kick and the winds song, and the white sails shaking. and the grey mist on the seas face, and the grey dawn breaking. I must go down to the sea again, to the call of the running tide, It`s a wild call and a clear call which cannot be denied. And all I ask is a windy day, with the white clouds flying, and the flung spray, and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying. I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life, to the gulls way, and the whales way, where the winds like a whetted knife. And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow rover, and a quiet sleep and a sweet dream, when the long trips over. JOHN MASEFIELD

"Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood, and runs over from the basement of time. Maunawili Falls
published by: clarkth
The falls are a very popular swimming area for local youths. Do NOT enter the water if you have any open cuts or sores. Leptospirosis bacteria is in the water and it can potentially make you extremely sick or even kill you. Personally, I do not recommend swimming or wading in the fresh water streams and ponds of O'ahu regardless of how inviting it appears to be.

Shark's Cove North Shore
published by: clarkth
I started out the afternoon by shooting at Banzai Pipeline and then Sunset Beach without much success due to the poor surf conditions. Nobody was in the chaotic water surfing. I figured at Shark's Cove I could, at least, get some good wave action on the rocks. The surf is still in the fifteen to twenty foot range here. On occasion, the blasts were rocketing about thirty to forty feet in the air.

This rippling water is in the stingray pool at the Mystic Aquarium in Mystic CT. On the right you can see the "tail end" of the stingray that made this beautiful water effect. This pool has many stingrays swimming around and visitors can lean down and pet them, as they are very friendly and come by to "say hello". They are fast - I only got the water ripples and his tail in this shot but I love the look of it. Still one of my favorite shots - hope you enjoy it too. This was taken in Sept 2006.

Skógafoss - Iceland
published by: ykarelic4
The Skógafoss is one of the biggest and most beautiful waterfalls of the country with a width of 25 meters and a drop of 60 meters.
The waterfall Skógafoss is situated in the south of Iceland at the cliffs of the former coastline. After the coastline had receded into the sea (it is now at a distance of about 5 km from Skógar), the cliffs stayed behind parallel to the coast over hundreds of kilometers, creating together with some mountains a clear border between the Lowlands and the Highlands of Iceland.

Mesmerizing Ripples ~ Chena Lakes North Pole Alaska
published by: ourjrny
Featured Member's Choice Outdoors Rivers and Lakes Most Viewed and Most Downloaded October 2007 ~ Best viewed full size where you will see the light play an optical illusion of motion as the sunlight on my right dances on the water. I created these ripples with the rudder of my paddle boat, lining it up to ripple toward the center cloud! It took about 8 attempts, adjusting the rudder slightly in my attempts to get the ripples as perfectly horizontal as possible. I am easily entertained! The Chena River is a clear water river running from the hills east of Fairbanks Alaska and emptying into the Tanana River near UAF. The upper river is formed by several smaller rivers (forks) and the lower river is slower and deeper moving. The river is about 60 miles long and is surrounded by the Chena River State Recreation Area in the upper half of the river basin. A flood control project protects the lower section of the river from flooding the city of Fairbanks. This was built by the Army Corp of Engineers after Fairbanks experienced a devastating flood in 1967. The Chena River was a major factor in the founding of Fairbanks. E.T. Barnette founded a trading post on the lower river when he learned miners had discovered gold in the nearby streams, and because the riverboat captain refused to take him any farther up the Tanana River. The trading post became known as Fairbanks, in honour of the senator from Indiana. Charles Fairbanks later became a Vice President of the United States. The Chena is used recreationally for fishing and boating. The river is also travelled by snowmachines and mushers (dog sleds) during the winter months.

I love this for a few reasons- first, you have the waves crashing up on shore, plus a few others right by the ship, but you also see how the constant movement of water against the ship has worn it down to a fraction of its original size. The power of water!

More than 2.2 million people died in 2000 from waterborne diseases (related to the consumption of contaminated water) or drought. In 2004, the UK charity WaterAid reported that a child dies every 15 seconds from easily preventable water-related diseases; often this means lack of sewage disposal; see toilet.

The term "global warming" refers to the warming in recent decades and its projected continuation, and implies a human influence. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) uses the term "climate change" for human-caused change, and "climate variability" for other changes. The term "climate change" recognizes that rising temperatures are not the only effect. The term "anthropogenic global warming" (AGW) is sometimes used when focusing on human-induced changes. In the future we will need too much clear water to live.

Big Thompson River
published by: happened2crash
The Big Thompson River is a tributary of the South Platte River, approximately 78 miles (123 km) long, in the U.S. state of Colorado.
On July 31, 1976, during the celebration of Colorado's centennial, the Big Thompson Canyon was the site of devastating flash floods that swept down the steep and narrow canyon, claiming the lives of 145 people, 6 of whom were never found. This flood was triggered by a nearly stationary thunderstorm near the upper section of the canyon that dumped 30 centimeters (12 inches) of rain in less than 4 hours (more than 3/4 of the annual rainfall for the area). Little rain fell over the lower section of the canyon, where many of the victims were. Around 9PM a wall of water more than 6 meters (20 ft) deep raced down the canyon at about 6 m/s (14 mph), destroying 400 cars, 418 houses and 52 businesses and washing out most of U.S. Route 34. [5]
This flood was more than 4 times as strong as any in the 112-year record available in 1976, with a discharge of 1,000 cubic meters per second (30,000 ft³/s). However, paleoflood data obtained from radiocarbon dating of sediments indicates that such flooding occurs in the area every few thousand years. (source: wikipedia)

published by: harrymiv
Image of Multnomah Falls was taken 1/24/2008 just before 11PM. The Portland Oregon area had a bout of cold weather, the temperature at the time I took the image was 28F.
There was a lot of Photoshop (Elements 6) layer work to color correct bring out the upper part of the falls from the RAW original. There were Sodium vapor lights behind me as the primary source of illumination, the moon was nearly full but not really illuminating anything directly due to the chasm the falls is in. I used a flashlight and my 580EX strobe to paint the falls, but the dominant light source was the Sodium lights that I color corrected.

Windsurfing in the Columbia River Gorge
published by: cracker001
We got an unexpected surprise the next morning when we were driving on the Washington side of the Gorge. We came across the famous windsurfers. This was across from the town of Hood River, Oregon, the Windsurfing capital of the World. Talked to one of the surfers and he said the winds were about 30 mph and they could sail in winds up to about 50 mph. Looked like great fun. Don't think the skills are easily acquired. Sure made me want to get out there and learn.
