AMERICAN ROBIN ( Turdus migratorius) Robins are a well known bird, often seen on lawns searching for insects and earthworms. During cold weather they prefer moist woods or fruit-bearing trees. During the winter season when the ground freezes and when insects are hard to come by, they can be seen consuming Holly tree berries. Adults are 21 1/2 cm (8 1/2 in) long and are orange breasted. Juveniles have spotted breasts. Males heads are darker than that of the female.
