Yes, I did send The National Trust For Scotland an email informing them that their information board here was lamentable. They better have fixed it before we get back to this neck of the woods.

THE FOLLOWING IS THE TEXT ON AN ALMOST ILLEGIBLE NOTICEBOARD AT THE SITE. King Robert the Bruce is said to have rested against this stone after defeating an English army here at Moss Rapploch in 1307. Since the defeat of Bruce's army at Methven in 1306, the English armies had been swarming across Scotland trying desperately to drive the Scottish King out of hiding and into their hands. However Bruce's fight to free Scotland from English domination was far from over. Favouring guerrilla tactics rather than pitched battles, Bruce charged the English from a nearby hill forcing them to break and scatter. Whilst his men collected the booty, Bruce rested against this stone. Bruce's success here in 1307 was more than a single stroke of luck. It was one of several small but significant morale boosting victories under his leadership in this year. These victories not only boosted the Scots confidence but also encouraged more people to join Bruce in his fight against the English. The Scottish fight was to intensify over the next few years culminating in Bruce's ultimate success at Bannockburn on 24th june 1314.
