A beautiful place to rest and relax. This is my "adopted" yard, kindly loaned to me whenever I need it by my friends Don & Rachel, and his parents, Ruth & Wally.

Believe it or not, this lighthouse is in someone's backyard! They are nice enough to let photographers trespass and take some shots.

This koala usually lives in the eucalypts out the front. Our property is adjacent to the bush and koalas often visit. I think this is a young male who got lost looking for a mate.

Cockatoos are noisy backyard visitors that enjoy supplementing their diet on sunflower seeds that I put out especially in winter time when their natural food is scarce.

This hummingbird is a female ruby throated hummingbird. She loves to sit on the branches of the Queen Anne's Lace plant.

I've always been a big fan of Woody so naturally, I've always loved these big, beautiful birds. They are very shy birds though. Much to my joy, this fella didn't mind my presence even one little bit. He just dug for food, and occasionally looked over and chattered at me.

Butterflies have some of the most beautiful natural patterns. This swallowtail is no exception.

I've never seen a flower with so many colors blending together as this dahlia in our garden.

To think that, in spring, there are daffodils, tulips, spring wild flowers, in summer, with hostas, ferns, and shade perennials, especially the red monarda. Nature is truly amazing.

6 years ago, we brought the Datura seeds from the Sonoran Desert in Arizona to our backyard in France. Every summer, they are flowering in July and August: every night, some new flowers open, but they are wilting at about noon on the following day

They will be ripe in November (we got more than 200 Kiwis last year!)

One of the things so neat about living in the Sandhills is seeing all the wildlife that is so abundant in our backyards.

With all the wide open spaces we have here, it is easy to see the wonders God made, like this beautiful double rainbow, taken in our backyard. This photo doesn't begin to capture how awesome this one was.

We have had an abundance of rain so there have been lots of wildflowers. The yellow prairie cone flowers are especially plentiful and can be seen covering the meadows for miles.

He blends in so well with the bark of the tree.

This rose has such a sweet smell, and is beautiful when there is water droplets on it.

Moon over Cape Coral, With Fragrant Frangi. This is my favorite tree in my back yard and I photographed many times over the years.

Best seen full size. This is such a tiny, interesting, loveable bird, 4.3-5.1 inches (11-13cm) long, weighing 0.2 to 0.3 oz. (6-9 gram). It moves rapidly, foraging insects. Love their beautiful colored fantails. The male is much darker. His fantail contains an orangy red - see previous shot. (ps11403-478k, 899x651)

My backyard just as the storm front rolls in. Storm is moving left to right. After the photo, I ran for cover, just made it before the rain. The storm had 39 mph wind and 1" rain.

Did never see a taller foxglove. Measured it today. It is 8 feet tall (almost 2 Meter hoch)! About twenty years ago, I planted my the first ones in my yard. Since then they re-seed themselves. Each year they come up in some different spots and in different sizes! In Germany they call them "Fingerhut" - thimble, must be because of the blossoms shapes. (ps11943-522k)

Of all the daylily flowers I have captured in my yard, this is my personal favorite. This year was my first year to capture flowers with my new Canon DSLR and F2.8 macro lens. I could not wait for the opportunity.

My son caught this guy in our backyard. We observed him for a while then let him go; and, he stuck around for me to take some cool pics.

My kids were amazed at how big this caterpillar was. Beautifully, bright green also.

This big toad didn't mind me snapping some shots of it. He just sat there with not a care in the world.

You can see a reflection of me taking the photograph of this marble, which is part of a wind chime in our back garden.

Two years later, the Scrabble board is built, the edge gardens are planted, and the fire pit is burning!

Thanks to one of my WS friends, I have found out, This is actually " AN AMERICAN LOTUS" This water lily lives on the neighbor's pond, to be back of our house. It is 10 to 12 inches in diameter. The lily pads are 2 to 2 1/2 feet in diameter. Growing along the edge of the pond, covering about 1/3 of one side. Belongs to the neighbors, but closer and more visible, to us, from our back yard.

I awoke this morning to look out my window and see that last night's storm split the backyard neighbor's tree. I can't begin to do justice to the size of this thing! There's not too much damage, but it'll take a couple of chainsaws to take apart.

We call the flower French anemone and the insect is a Syrphidae, Hoverfly.

Redcurrant fruit is slightly more sour than its relative the blackcurrant, and is cultivated mainly for jams and cooked dishes, rather than for eating raw.... For example, in Scandinavia it is often used in fruit soups and summer puddings, and in Germany it is also used in combination with custard or meringue as a filling for tarts.

It is quite usual to see some small moving things in any backyard. After a slight rain, a slug is coming out for a drink in the day time.

My unit looks into this park and I often see brightly coloured parrots sitting on the fence or flying over, however I always seem to have trouble finding them when I go in, camera in hand.

Archie was hand reared from a baby and then released back into the wild. We still leave food out for him and easily recognize him as the tip of his tail was damaged when still a baby. He recently fathered 7 babies and we are now full up - no vacancies. Kids in our street see Archie as every squirrel they see and are happy to report every sighting to us.

every year after Halloween we let our pumpkins decompose back in our garden area. the seeds will sprout and we get lovely pumpkin vines. the flowers open up in the morning only and are this lovely orange.

my neighbor has the most unusual hydrangas - they are a deep purple. I tried with this photo to capture the color - but it is not really true to the deep purple they are. never seen any others this color.

Well this tomato hornworm ate my tomato plant to stubs but I could not destroy it because soon it would be a Hawkmoth/sphinxmoth also know as hummingbird moth.

These wasps have taken over this old bird house in my neighbor's back yard and are remodeling it to meet their needs. The whole neighborhood checks it frequently to see the progress. Soon the whole bird house will become totally covered with wasp housing material! Amazingly hard workers!

A few steps down to my back-yard, as the tide was coming in...Johnstone Strait on Vancouver Island.

This barrel cactus flower only lasts about 1 day. If you look close, it looks like there is a small flower in the middle. I look forward to these blooms every year.

My favorite time of the year is spring when all the flowers are at their peak. A view of a portion of the rock wall garden in the yard shows the peonies in full bloom.
