published by: ykarelic4
Domesticated almonds appear in the Early Bronze Age (3000–2000 BC) of the Near East, or possibly a little earlier. A well-known archaeological example of almond is the fruits found in Tutankhamun's tomb in Egypt (c. 1325 BC), probably imported from the Levant.

Ghost Ship
published by: bergjagger
Namibia's Skeleton Coast, is a notorious stretch of water and greatly feared by mariners,it has a wonderful name and a terrible reputation. The unpredictable currents and sandbanks combine with impenetrable dense fogs that roll in off the sea,to make this a graveyard for ships and whales alike, whilst the unforgiving desert hinterland makes this one of the worst places in the world to be marooned.
Stuck hard and fast in the sand for a hundred years at Conception Bay,some considerable distance from the wild oceans that first stranded it there, was what remained of the corroded hulk of the freighter "Eduard Bohlen". The ships' crew lost thier way in the infamous dense fog so characteristic of this area, like so many mariners before them.Their final voyage ended tragically here as it ran aground in 1909.This used to be the original shoreline, but over the years the sand has migrated nearly half a kilometre westward out to sea, trapping it in the desert to rust slowly away into the sands.
This image for me personifies the loneliness and fragility of the human spirit in this unforgiving harsh environment.I can only image the growing feelings of desperation the survivors of the shipwreck must have experienced when they crawled up onto the beach thinking they had found salvation from a watery grave, only to cruely discover on climbing the nearest sand dune,an endless empty expanse of desert, with not much realistic hope of shelter from the blistering sun or finding fresh water. This coast of skeletons is full of bleached bones and very aptly named!

Franklin-Mineral-Fluorescent-rocks-Before-and-after
published by: shivonnejean
The Franklin Rock and Mineral Museum in Franklin NJ has an awesome dark room where there is a 33 foot long fluorescent display. Rocks found in the quarry are displayed in regular light. Then they turn on off the lights and turn on the special fluorescent lights and you see gorgeous colors. It is amazing that rocks that look grey or beige can under the UV light look spectacular. This is a colorful collage of before and after. Franklin is a Borough in New Jersey, USA. Franklin is known as the "Fluorescent Mineral Capital of the World," and is located over a rich ore body containing more than 150 minerals, many of them fluorescent and 25 of which are found no where else on earth.

From 18 months old to 62 years old. Many changes, but much the same.
One ship drives east and another drives west
With the selfsame winds that blow.
‘Tis the set of the sails
And not the gales
Which tells us the way to go.
Like the winds of the sea are the ways of fate,
As we voyage along through life:
‘Tis the set of a soul
That decides its goal,
And not the calm or the strife.

Mt. St .Helens Before & After
published by: flowergal
Mt St. Helens before and after the eruption. Here in the Pacific NW we have some magnificent snow capped mountains. Before in a faded black and white undated image from Moms album stands the beautiful sleeping Mt St. Helens in the state of WA. The mountain rose 9,677 tall, and stood peacefully keeping guard over Spirit Lake below for 123 years. Then on morning of May 18, 1980 Mt St. Helens came to life erupting violently blowing away the upper part of the mountain, and leaving it at only 8,363 feet.
After is in colored photo I took from the freeway in SW Washington dated December 2007. No longer does Mt St Helens reach for the sky, but as snow still blankets the mountain in winter it has a softening effect on the destruction created by the eruption's force.

Opps!!! Six before entering the waterfall and four after leaving the waterfall
published by: police370
Before and after of the same raft with two captures merged. See the next picture in this album for an in between closeup. From the foot in the air and up is a separate picture. In the rear is the raft when it entered the waterfall with 6 people in it. As it leaves, the front guy is gone and the 2nd (who is in the middle in the rear capture) is in mid air joining the other guy. The fourth is hiding behind the big mouth. I captured the raft as it progressed and then I merged them together in photo shop for this before and after image. View it full size and look at the faces of shock and terror. This was taken on the Nantahala River in North Carolina at the only level 3 and 4 water. Normally a 1 and 2 level ride.

Before And After Collage Of Clancy The Rescue Dog.
published by: lovethemsteiff
Poor Clancy came to us after he'd been lost, abandoned, abused, starved and neglected. He was covered in fleas, and had broken teeth and a swollen mouth from trying to chew his way free, or the vet said, he may have been trying to eat rocks. He was almost too weak to stand and could only eat a spoonful of canned food at a time because his tummy was so small from starvation. He was just skin and bones. After a $400.00 trip to the vet, two flea baths and some TLC, he's turned into a beautiful dog, who's very sweet and loving. We are both glad we found each other.
