This candid photo of a friend and her four-year-old daughter was taken nearly ten years ago with my very first digital camera. Mother and daughter were meeting for the first time after a separation of several months. To compensate for the low resolution, I filtered the image using Photoshop's paint daubs filter.

On vacation on the Guadelupe river in New Braunfels TX. The boys are so excited that they can't contain themselves.

It was about 65 that day but the boys really wanted to get wet. I think he wasn't expecting the water to be that cold.

I couldn't resist taking a picture of this lazy summer day with the kids.

The pony league world series is for kids aged ~13-14. My son's team made a run 2 years ago but as apparent by their body language, things did not go well for them on this particular day. They were hot, tired, disgusted, dissappointed and frustrated.

They were watching each other for minutes; not really afraid one of the other; but I red in their minds: "You move – I'll eliminate you!!"

Not only the hands - which were fascinating in that moment - but also the different expressions on their faces show their enthusiasm and their happiness.

I wish I could say that I just walked up on this scenario and that it was real, but it was all composed. I have a young friend who said he was willing to be my 'model' for the day. It was all spontaneous, no planning went into it. Although I live in a nice little neighborhood, there is this place around the corner from my house that has this big concrete thing. I'm not sure what its original purpose was, perhaps an old reservoir??? Its actually kind of scary, and if it weren't for the fact that a couple of other people were with me, I would had been a little scared to be there. My daughter had told me about it a while back, so I was curious about it and thought it would be a cool place to take pictures. It was full of graffiti and garbage (trash cans, beer bottles, paint cans...), but there was a weird kind of beauty about it. I asked Pat (my 'model') to act like he was very distraught and he did great! He actually had fun with it. It was very sunny, so I had to use the side with the lease amount sun and fortunately, there was enough graffiti there to fill the frame. We dragged over a trash can and he used it as a prop (I scoured my hands when I got home). I used my Nikon D300 and set my camera at F/7.1 at 1/200 of a second. I used a fixed lens, my favorite, 105mm 2.8. Its a great lens for capturing moods! I didn't crop much since I used such a powerful lens (I wish I hadn't chopped his foot off tho). And about all I did in photoshop was adjust the saturation to give the photo a kind of ageless look.

I was walking along the beach and saw this poor guy who must have caught a bad wave. I was so curious and wanted to ask him what happened, but I didn't. Perhaps a shark gobbled up his girlfriend....

This was taken this year 2009 at the 4th of July celebration at Ringwood Manor State Park, Ringwood NJ. At first I got annoyed that no matter how I tried to take the photo, this little boy kept getting in the way. then I realized how sweet it was - the revolutionary soldiers raising the colonial new USA flag and this lone little 2009 boy standing at attention with his wooden musket.

This was taken last year 2008 at the 4th of July celebration at Ringwood Manor State Park, Ringwood NJ. I love this photo because the colonial soldier re-enactor looks like he is enjoying the activity as much as or more than the children!

I had no idea when I snapped this photo that I would capture such a delightful fun expression on Steve's face. He was devouring that chicken hot dog! Photo taken 7-5-09.

The Potoos (sometimes called Poor-Me-Ones, Brazilian name: Urutau or Urutago, Latin name: Nyctibius Griseus) are large birds related to the nightjars and frogmouths. They are nocturnal insectivores and during the day they perch upright on a tree stump, looking like they are part of the stump. A single spotted egg is laid directly on the top of a stump. This very tame bird in the picture is sitting on its egg right outside our garden fence.

My son took this picture at a zoo we were visiting. Aren't they cute!

These two youngsters are waiting (somewhat patiently) for the court to become available. Due to poor lighting and low resolution original image I applied a dry brush effect in Photoshop Elements.

This one makes me think of the yin yang. Light and dark, male and female (at least they used to be). The crossed front paws are similar to the small amount of the opposite color in each side of the symbol of yin yang. They both have very different personalities, but most days when I come home I find them together.
