Most of the things displayed in this shop, in Kalk Bay near Cape Town, window is white, and even the sidewalk. Then these window shoppers came along almost wearing black and white.

My son's basketball net really caught a lot of ice and really looks cool.

(Judges, this is not an entry, just a shot to share with friends.) Surprising to see how much color Baby aspen retain when against a backdrop of snow. Zooming in you can still see the yellow/brown. From afar though, I think this passes as a near b/w.

Not an official entry as some photo shopping was involved here to desaturate all but yellow.. I did this last spring and really liked the look with only yellow as a color. The shoes were on a gray poster board.

Not many people have ever seen a Mockingbird's whiskers; in fact, I didn't even know they HAD until I downloaded the pictures from my camera that day! The snow frozen on the whiskers make them VERY visible.

Cabin nestled in the trees just off the road. It was a beautiful spot. Note the waterfall and running creek in the foreground.

This was a cool view from inside my car on a rainy day.

This is Donatello DeMarco - one of my cats. He was a stray kitten in our neighborhood and we rescued him. We thought he was a girl when he was a kitten, even the vet did!! until as he grew it became apparent he was NOT a girl! What a surprise! the initial name of Dotty [which we still use as a nickname and his main name] became the more dignified Donatello DeMarco. He is my pride and joy and I had to feature him in all three choices for the challenge, since when I think of black and white - he comes to mind immediately.

well - I know the pink in Dotty's nose is very clear - but I did not want to change the shading in this to make it more BW because it is such a cute and funny shot of him!! Hope you enjoy it - even though it may not have a chance to win. I love my boy [yes Dotty is a boy] and I had to feature him in all 3 photos for Black and White in color!

I took this photo when visiting Verona Park a few months ago. This hawk or eagle was high up in a tree. I used my zoom to capture it. Perhaps this is why it came out almost as a sillouette. I know it is not a black and white photo and is in color - and you can see some muted colors, but it does also appear to be a bw photo - doesn't it?

The trailer broke loose and was floating down the river in this photo. The day was truly black and white in every direction. I discovered this cemetary on Nov 4, 2007; took all of the shots in color. It was not easy to work with this one (p4074), because there are black and white markers with details in texture. There were the mountains, the clouds, which would disappear if you wanted to get more contrast, and there was the green grass. To top it off, it was slightly hazy!! Without any doubt, a challenge, to get this one right.

Country summer residence (Dacha) with elephants of the known Samara artist, merchant of the first guild Konstantin Golovkin. It has constructed it in 1908 - 1909 under own project on coast of Volga river. The building is combined from a hollow brick and large concrete blocks. Elephants are made of cement on Golovkin's figure. Elephants hollow, and in one of them, on memoirs of the wife of the artist, have been incorporated documents and the photos concerning construction of a summer residence. Windows of the house narrow and high - up to three meters. Light did not get into them almost - it was necessary to light candles even in the afternoon.

My neighbor's cat has such big extra toes, she looks like she has opposable thumbs. I have not seen her since the day I took this photo over a month ago.
