November 2nd is "The day of the dead" in Guatemala. People gather in the cemeteries to remember their loved ones. I got this picture of these women's faces lit only by candlelight. (I used high ISO for this picture.

At least there is a light...Penelope floated for miles attached to the kite...tired of flying Penelope said adios to the kite and drifted to the ground...well...more like a small missile plummeting to the earth...before she realized holding on to the bottle was not a good idea at this point...SHHH...Penelope hears something...really...SHHH...

she heard something...Oh no...every one yell! Penelope run! Penelope hears a small voice inside telling her to run...but she can't get a hold of the candle and Penelope is afraid of the dark and where is her liquid comfort...For goodness sakes Penelope...don't look up...just RUN!

something bad...like rotting meat...but Penelope is now frozen solid...afraid to move without her liquid comfort...Penelope the good news? You have no peripheral vision...The bad news...We think you have landed in Scary Kitty's lair...remember Scary Kitty...hmmm...Yes...Then RUN!!!

Inanimate objects make better subjects for long exposures, so I decided to use dolls and figurines for this challenge. This is a closeup of a vintage doll's eyes.

All lighting was by candlelight for this picture and all others in this album. Chief Vann celebrated a candlelight Christmas like this in 1805 when he invited the Moravian Missionaries to his home. This two story brick home was built by the Chief and was his residence until he was murdered in 1807. His son lived here until the Cherokee were relocated from Georgia to Oklahoma in what is know as the Trail of Tears during the Georgia Gold Rush in 1838.Chief Vann was one of the richest Cherokee. See the rest of the album for a tour of the entire two stories plus attic and basement.

This is a one room log cabin where the poorer Cherokee lived in Georgia in the early 1800s. A big contrast to the Chief Vann's dinning room in the previous image. All lighting for the capture was by candlelight.

Look closely and you will see the 2nd hummingbird flitting around. This 1 of 2 antique candleholders that I bought many years ago.

The word "truth" is written in calligraphy using a piece of freash bamboo and lighted using candles. The word fades out of focus - the style and fade shot in MACRO mode bring alive the quote from the bible.

I had a candle burning and Baby Kitti decided to check it out. She had never seen fire/flame/candle before. She walked right up to and sat down and stared at it for a while. Then she reached over and peered in to the candle. I took this just as she was doing this and a half a second later she jumped high and fast and backwards. I think she might have even singed one of her little whiskers. Silly little kitty.

I didn't know what I would do for candle lighting so here is my first attempt after photo shopping.

I found this bicycle candle holder, liked it, but couldn't get it to look appealing with digital so again I went back to the photoshop and produced this piece.

The hands leave shadows on the face of the clock.

Reflected by candlelight, the face of "Old Man Winter" shines as part of the spout of an 1850's antique Silver teapot.

OK - so this isn't exactly candlelight but I thought it had many of the same characteristics. The interior light for the pumpkin is actually a little green LCD light that I thought added to the spookiness of the photo (more so than the original candle). All other light is done via "light painting" with a small flash light.

Simply...Believe...period.

This is a picture of a portrait of my Grandmother, Grace who died in the 1940's in her mid twenties of cancer. This rose bush still blooms each year at the homestead. Strangely while taking the pictures of this, my camera battery died. Then, while uploading, my computer popped an error saying virtual memory too low...I think I have a guardian angel with me.

Roses were setup in the dark. I then moved a single candle across the front of the roses that I wanted the light to hit. I did this during a 5 second exposure. I was looking for a unique way to take a picture of something by Candlelight only when I dreamed this one up.
