Taken late in the afternoon in outback Australia. A pair of galahs in the top branches of a dead gum tree.

Ostuni is a small city in the province of Brindisi situated about 8 km from the coast. Its main economic activities include tourism, known for its nearby pristine beaches, as well as a vibrant olive and grape agribusiness. Ostuni's area has been inhabitated since the Stone age. The town is reputed to have been originally established by the Messapii, a pre-classic tribe, and destroyed by Hannibal during the Punic Wars. It was then re-built by Greek colons, since the current name derives from the Greek Astu néon ("new town"). Sacked after the fall of the Western Roman Empire, in 996 AD the town became part of the Norman County of Lecce. From 1300 to 1463 was part of the Principality of Taranto and from 1507 (together with Villanova and Grottaglie) passed to the Dukedom of Bari of Isabella, wife to Gian Galeazzo Sforza, Duke of Milan. Under the lordship of Isabella, Ostuni enjoyed a golden-age within the wider panorama of the Italian Renaissance age. In this period Isabella took under her protection humanists and people of art and letters, including bishop Giovanni Bovio. Isabella died in 1524 and Ostuni passed as dowry to her daughter Bona Sforza, wife-to-be of Sigismund II Augustus King of Poland. Also during Bona Sforza's government, Ostuni enjoyed a liberal and magnanimous regimen. In particular, in 1539 she had towers built along all the shoreline, in order to prevent eventual attacks from the Turks controlling the Balkans. These towers (still existing, incl. Pozzella Tower, the Pylon, Villanova and much more), were permanently garrisoned and communicated through ignited bonfire. The so-called "Old Town" is Ostuni's citadel build on the top of a hill and still fortified with the ancient walls. Ostuni is reputed an architectural jewel, and is commonly referred to as "the White Town" ("La Città Bianca", in Italian) for its white walls and its typically white-painted architecture.

Just before sunrise the horizon lights up in red and orange contrasting with the dark blue clouds higher in the sky and the water begins to shine in the distance.

I took this photo of myself looking out a window by placing the camera out to my left on a tripod. I decided to decrease the color pallette and voila, a Scarface movie poster rendition.

This is a picture of my niece, Sara. I used a macro lens to focus on the eye and got a little more as a bonus. She was watching cartoons and I happened to catch the reflection from the television in her eye. I used photoshop in order to make the photograph black and white, but I left her beautiful blue eye color. Enjoy. Blow this photo up for maximum clarity..

We were in a hurry to move along, so this was the only picture I took. One of my favorite photos.

This is the beach that I fish from. On 6-24-09, I caught four different species from this spot.

A rabbit ran through the garden in Wisconsin. He broke off this beautiful blossom. I just could not let it lay there, picked it up and took a lot of shots. The blossom here is inside my daughter's house on the windowsill. I set it in front of this dark Geode. Light fell in through the window. Loved the contrast and clicked. Afterwards, the blossom was swimming in a cup and looked very pretty for days. (ps8099-617k 290m)

I welcome my "Early Scout" Peony every year in my garden, it has such bright colors. Love the deep dark velvety red and bright yellow against the green foliage. Early morning sun brightened this shot. (ps9738-540k 308m)

The building stands 100m above ground! When you take the metro, this is the sight that meets you on the way up.

Looking through on of the pyramides inside Louvre. The grid is formed by steel and glass, in contrast to the old building across the great courtyard.

I wanted the effect that it, seen from left to right, gets lighter. So you could say, that there are more than one contrast in the picture.

The real name of this butterfly is "Paper Kite" (Idea leuconoe) or "Rice Paper"

The cityscape mirror over the piano reflects the rooms beyond. When the light from the window reflects in the mirror, the contrasts are great.

i took a pix of from the birds in the porch eave at walties and added cher to the pix. there is no window where i put it. it is really just symbolic of cher's plight. cher is an indoor cat and she never gets to explore the outdoors. and she has never been at waltie's.

gtjeddah, one of my webshot buddies has this pix of his cats that i love. so i just did a little interior decorating and used photoshop on his pix.

i know i can't win no matter what as the pix is vertical. but i think it has a lot of contrast and i am entering it as i do it for fun anyway!

The ceiling of the Pantheon in Rome is a perfect study in high contrast with its timeless architecture accented by the natural light that enters through the oculus.

These flowers and friendly faces are part of an arching doorway to the Castel Nuovo in Naples, Italy. The Triumphal Arch was added to this 13th century castle in 1467 to commemorate the entry of King Alfonso I into Naples.

Contrasting colors of Red and Green make this window on the island of Procida in the Bay of Naples another great addition to my collection.

Somehow the high contrast adds to the spiky look of thistles. I couldn't decide to submit it in sepia, b/w or color. I took the color version because the blue sky makes it much more optimistic.
