White Rhino family
published by: rodemicheli
Lake Nakuru National Park, which surrounds the lake, has recently been enlarged partly to provide a sanctuary for the black rhino. This undertaking has necessitated a fence - to keep out poachers rather than to restrict the movement of wildlife. The park now has more than 25 rhinos, one of the largest concentrations in the country, so the chances of spotting these survivors are good. There are also a number of Rothschild's giraffe, again translocated for safety from western Kenya beginning in 1977. Waterbuck are very common and both the Kenya species are found here. Among the predators are lion and leopard, the latter being seen much more frequently in recent times. The park also has large sized python snakes that inhabit the dense woodlands, and can often be seen crossing the roads or dangling from trees

Awwww, mom!
published by: rodemicheli
Due credit should be given to the World Wide Fund For Nature organization, and local Kenyan wildlife foundations for supporting the preservation of animals, protection of the rhinoceros population and research into the effects of surrounding communities and industries. The Great Rift Valley, mostly known in Kenya as the East African Rift Valley, was formed between 2 and 7 million years ago. It is the longest rift on the surface of the earth. The Rift Valley starts all the way from Jordan, Middle East, and runs through Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Congo, Malawi, and ends near the coastal town of Solada in Mozambique. The amazing attribute about the Rift Valley is that once it reaches the Kenyan border, it diverges into two rifts, which later converge near Lake Rukwa in southern Tanzania

A wedding couple and their family, Madurai
published by: ttalbum
Its interesting to follow how different people are in different countries. In Bolivia people wouldn't let you take photos of them unless you pay, in Indonesia I was asked quite often by locals to pose for a photo with them and in India people approached me on many occasions and asked to take pictures of them. In case with this photo, I was taking pictures of the Madurai temple in the evening when I saw a wedding procession coming out from the temple so I decided to take a picture or two. I didn't ask for anything but the groom stopped and asked all the guests to pose with them for my photo. After I took a few photos of the wedding couple, I ended up surrounded by 30 or maybe 40 guests who wanted me to take separate photos of them with their family members, friends, etc. I spent about 20mins just taking and showing pictures of those interested.

Silverado...maybe not
published by: mistyblu115
This was a little more tricky. I had to pre-focus where I wanted to be when the shutter released. I would press the shutter button, jump on my horse and race up the hill to where the others were waiting and try to calmly walk down together to the pre-focus point for the release of the shutter. After a few tries, my horse realized I WAS is a hurry, and would be in flight before I even had my leg over his back! Wild but fun photo shoot! (not a sharp picture though)

After I get everyone set up, and with the use of the timer...I press the shutter, sprint back to my horse and try and get into position before the shutter releases. It takes a few tries until my horses realizes he's supposed to stand still, as even though I act like I'm in a hurry to go somewhere, I'm not!

The pronghorn is the last survivor of the remarkable family of pronghorns. They have strange shaped horns(pronged, spiraled, with multiple sets) on the forehead and nose. Herds of these graceful animals can be seen in Sasketchewan, Alberta and and in the great plains in the USA. They are the fastest of all North America mammals. and have been clocked at 86kmp/h at shorter distances.

PRAIRIE DOG FAMILY...
published by: umpa1
The prairie dog (genus Cynomys) is a rodent even though the word dog is in the name. Their close relation is to the squirrel not the dog. The name prairie dog came about because of their characteristic barking noise.
In the Southwest the prairie dog has managed to survive for many years due to their complex social organization and behavior. They are an important part of life cycle of the Great Plains of America as were the buffaloes and North American Indians. The buffalos wore out pastures and then the prairie dogs moved into their territory and built their own prairie dog towns.

OH MY it's a FAMILY AFFAIR...
published by: umpa1
Mother Canada goose and her 2 goslings. Is that a yawn I see?...Canada geese mate for life but will mate again upon the death of a mate. Geese lay about five eggs per nest; although, there may be as many as twelve. About 75 percent of those will become goslings by the fall flight season. This is a very low mortality rate in comparison to rural geese which have a rate of 59 percent on average. Each female will produce more than 50 young in her life span.

Ryan and Jessica - First Meeting
published by: hughkaren
First Meeting - When arranging the slide show for my daughter's wedding on Saturday I found this picture I took 25 years ago of the first meeting between my son and his brand new sister. They went on to form a very strong bond and he was there by her side when she became a wife, as he has been through all of life's ups and down's. He has been a wonderful big brother and I think the warmth shown in his eyes in this pictures predicts the love that will follow her all through her life.

CHRISTMAS KITTENS IN A BASKET
published by: jmthornsberry
CHRISTMAS KITTENS: One fall a kitten herself, showed up outside our house on 10 acres of secluded property. I was out calling the chickens into the chicken pen for the night and I heard a meow. It took a lot of effort to locate the sound but succeeded when I spotted the Tortoishell kitten, about 7 months old, wanting my attention, but at the same time, afraid. I could see she was quite pregnant and immediately set about helping her. She would not allow me to touch her, but accepted the warm and cozy dog house that I converted into a safe place for her to stay. I made her a bed inside, served her fresh food and water, and blocked the entrance so that only she could enter and coyotes were blocked out. Over the next few weeks she began to trust me enough to let me pet her. By the time her kittens were due I was able to pick her up and take her inside the house to help her deliver. She has been an inside cat since then, along with her kittens. We tried to find good homes for them all, but could not. They are life-pets now. They live in their own building and enclosed play ground, so they are always safe and protected. They are all loving and affectionate, and come in the house to cuddle and visit each day. We had a lot of fun raising them, and these Christmas Eve photos show how cute they were at this age. I am always thankful that God put the momma kitty in my path so that I could help her when she was so alone and in need. It has been an honor to serve Him in every way possible, including when He sends one of His creatures who needs a home, food, and loving care. Blessings, Judy (and Christina Nichole)

DECLARED BRAIN DEAD BUT CAME OUT OF COMA AFTER PARENTS REFUSED TO EUTHANIZE / HARVEST ORGANS

Christina, brother Craig, and future sister-in-law Stacy. July 24, 2004 - As you can tell from other photos of Christina before and after her coma, she is not overweight, but in some of these coma pictures she looks like she is because she is so swollen with fluids during the time when her kidneys had failed, along with all her other organs and systems... except the tiny spotty portion of ther brain stem (they told us) that kept her heart beating. Blessings, Judy (Chrissy's Mom)

Into the Jaws of Death
published by: clarkth
Folks... yep, this stunt went off just like the countless times we practiced it after watching some old re-runs of "Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom". My son Dylan, bravely portraying Jim, was literally like a "Transformer" with his vice-like grip assuring my personal safety throughout the shoot... again! Being much older, I naturally assumed the role of Marlon Perkins looking debonairly into the very jaws of death while... still smiling for the camera. As usual for these types of death defying feats, my wife and personal assistant Jan was brilliantly behind the lens working her photographic magic... again. MTV, here we come! Oh, by the way, don't you kids at home try this... we are trained professionals... trained professionals with years of experience working together as a finely tuned machine! Unfortunately, we won't be able to commit to any possible professional bookings for the next fifteen months. We had to temporarily split up the act while Dylan does his second Army tour of duty in Iraq and the 'gator gets a few new shellackings by the bulldog. Jan and I have since retired to our home in Hawai'i to wait it out for the duration. Look for us all to be together again in the Spring of 2009. Dylan, you're the best partner I've ever had. Let it roll, son, let it roll!
