Our Soilder's Cemetery - Virginia
published by: jim88bro
The Mount Jackson Confederate Hospital's Cemetery, now called Our Soldiers Cemetery, was dedicated on May 10, 1866 the third anniversary of Stonewall Jackson's death. The Memorial and Decoration Day organized by the local ladies was one of the first such observances in the South. The service began with an address in the church by Major Henry Kyd Douglas, the youngest of Jackson's staff officers. Afterward, a participant wrote that ladies, gentlemen and children as well as many ex-Confederates, all carrying wreaths prepared the day before, marched to the cemetery 3/4 of a mile north of town to place those wreaths on each of the 400 graves.

Garden Tomb
published by: ykarelic4
The Garden Tomb in Jerusalem is considered by some to be the site of the burial and resurrection of Jesus.
The site of the Garden Tomb is outside Jerusalem's Old City Walls, quite near the Damascus Gate. It is also close to the side of a rocky escarpment which resembles the face of a skull (thus fitting a possible interpretation of "Golgotha"), that is near the site Gordon identified as Calvary. The site also falls outside of the traditional walls of the first-century Jerusalem.

Behind the green door
published by: dickbendele
Midnight
one more night without sleepin' -
Watchin'
till the morning comes creepin'.
Green door
what's that secret you're keepin'?
There's an old piano and they play it hot behind the green door
Don't know what they're doin'
But they laugh a lot behind the green door.
Wish they'd let me in
So I could find out what's behind the green door.
Knocked once
tried to tell 'em I'd been there
Door slammed
hospitality's thin there.
Wonder just what's goin' on in there.
Saw an eyeball peepin' through a smokey cloud
Behind the green door
When I said
Joe sent me
Someone laughed out loud behind the green door.
AII I want to do is join the happy crowd behind the green door.
Midnight
one more night without sleepin' - . . .
Saw an eyeball peepin' through a smokey cloud . . .
Wish they'd let me in
So I could find out what's behind the green door.

The birds not only survived, but flew the nest just a few days later. A door to freedom for them.

Gate to Ta Som temple, Siem Reap, Cambodia
published by: suresh_krishna
Ta Som, built by Jayavarman VII (1181-1220), is a small moated temple. The temple is rarely visited by tourists, but offers architecturally rich features. In more or less in its original state, as it was when rediscovered, the Ta Som East Gate is impressive. An overgrown strangler ficus (Ficus gibbosa) tree covers the wall of the gopura (tower), though the faces on the top of the gopura are left intact.

The Main Gateway to Taj Mahal, India. (Better in full view)
published by: suresh_krishna
The main gateway, built in 1632-1638, to the Taj Mahal and its gardens stands on the southside of the courtyard. Detached gateways have long been muslim architectural design. It symbolizes the transition between the mundane world and Paradise, or in a more metaphysical way, a transition from the world of senses to the world of spiritualism. The gateway is richly decorated with inlay of Quaranic verses done in masterly calligraphy. Here the artists of Shah Jahan have done a remarkable job of creating an optical illusion by heightening the letters as they climb upwards so that all letters look the same size when viewed from below. Made of red sand stone, the gateway is 150ft wide and 100ft tall. The gateway is richly embellished. Of particular note are the floral arabesques fashioned from gemstones and inlaid in white marble which decorate the columns of the arches. Also impressive are the inlaid black marble inscriptions that frame the central vaulted portal.
