I took the shot through a window at the Trapp Family Lodge. Within the fence is the Trapp Family cemetery. Behind the fence are crosscountry trails (see previous shot). (6087-971k)

A little mountain hut on the ski slopes of Selva. The ideal place to wait for Santa!

After a long day on the ski runs, it's nice to take a little walk in the village of Ortisei.

Val Gardena is a renown area of wood cravers and sculptors. This house in Selva hosts a life size Nativity on the balcony.

The old ornament is covered with words and music to "Silent Night", the old hymn from Germany which most children still learn.

This old snow globe holds the familiar figures of Mary and Joseph adoring the new born Prince of Peace, the heart of Christmas for millions.

Candles burning in the home with a lighted Christmas Tree in the background say "Merry Christmas" to all who enter.

With the use of Picnik modifications, it looks like the train leaps to life from the sepia pages of a book.

The MacFarlane Memorial Room is a re-creation of a Federal Style parlor from the house of a wealthy Boston merchant at the beginning of the 19th century.

It started 10years ago. A friends bought me 3 little christmas village houses, a couple of miniature lamps and some little figures. Since then, my little christmas village has grown each year and has become a family tradition. This picture shows only 2/3rds of it! It takes me 2 days to put it all together, but it is worth it to hear all the'oooh's and 'aaah's when I hit the switch and it comes to light and life!

Each year, as a family trdition, we make a big jug of hot chocolate and drive around looking at holiday lights and sing caroles. Even though my kids are adults now...they wouldn't dream of missing this!

In our City, Bower Ponds is the place to be for a Christmas or Boxing day family skate.There is always a bonfire blazing and a kettle of hot chocolate brewing.My family loves to enjoy this time together and get some exercise too!

The Yuletide tour at Winterthur includes this tiny old fashioned 1950s style village. Winterthur, an American country estate, is the former home of Henry Francis du Pont. The home opened as a museum in 1951. It is located in Delaware, USA.

These tiny figures are sold in the gift shop at Winterthur Estate Museum in Delaware.

This one was having a snooze.

This nativity was made by my wife by cutting 3/4 full size figures out of plywood. The figures are painted white and caulked. There are 21 pieces, not counting the tree.

The Christmas season is a time of love, faith, gift giving, and traditions. Santa Claus is one of our family's most cherished traditions, and we decorate our home with our collection of hand-carved and painted wooden Santa Claus figures from Russia. (We currently have 11 carvings.) This has special meaning for us because we adopted two children from Russia. See my album for photos of our other Santas!

Happy Hanukkah to all my Jewish friends.

Each year at Chief Vann's 1801 home, a Candlelight Christmas is held for the public to tour. 1805 marks the first Christmas celebration in the Cherokee nation. The Moravian Missionaries were invited to his home to celebrate this first Christmas. This entire album is my tour of the home. All photographs were shot by candlelight. No electric lights or flash were used. Photos are from the 2009 celebration (December 11 and 12).

A more modern version of Christmas than My 1805 Chief Vann entry. Decorated by none other than my wife, Candy. We keep hoping for a good snow fall. This past week we had maybe a 1/4", but it was gone by 9 AM before I could get outside with the camera.

Modern decorations meet old structure. Located just off the main road into Asheville, NC. You have a long ride after passing this point to reach the main house.

Every year at Christmas time, a lighted tree is atop the Space Needle in Seattle.

Every kindergarten, every school has it's Hanukkah play. The children wear lights on their heads and sing the songs telling the story of Hanukkah, the story which happened a long time ago.

We light 8 candles, each day one more to remember a miracle about a jug of olive oil for the eternal light in the tempel that could have been enough for only one day, but in the end it was enough for 8 days, till there was brought more oil.

An HDR image of a stately old country home just a short distance from my house after about 16 inches of fresh snow.

Candle pyramids (Kerzenpyramide) are a famous Christmas sign in Germany! Every town has its Christmas market and every market has its own pyramid! This photo was taken in Heidelberg (South-West Germany) just ten days ago, during my last trip there.

This is a famous sausages-restaurant in Nuremberg, Germany. This photo is already three years old, but I find it fit perfectly into this challenge!

The holidays are often about tradition and family. These Noel singers belonged to my friend's parents and they always put it in their windows; when they passed away, he took the singers and now they grace his window every year, continuing the tradition his parents started and honoring their memory. Stories like this abound this time of year.
