This is our annual Winter Vacation up at Lake Tahoe with the family that we have done for the last 35 years.

Our Downtown has an annual “Christmas Parade of Lights”,and this is one of the entries in the Parade. There were so many to choose from but I choose this one as the creative challenge entry. I liked it with the girl on top all lighted up,that made it special for me, I can just see one of my granddaughters on top of there :-)

This was in Los Angeles Barnum and Bailey Circus came to town. My granddaughter and grandsons favorite part of the show because they take equastrian riding lessons and they love horses! That’s why I choose this photo, they asked me to enter it :-)

While the effect here is very simple & straight forward (a 90 degrees tilt of the camera), it proved to be quite effective, and many people don't recognize the subject at first glance...

Using long exposure, I took my first self portrait. I ran around the dining room like a crazy lady to get myself in this picture, and it looks like an apparition. This was fun but my husband thinks I'm nuts!

South Dakota's Black Hills provide the backdrop for Mount Rushmore, the world's greatest mountain carving.The sculpture features the faces of four American presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. The faces are 60 foot high. The sculptor, Gutzon Gorglum, began drilling into the mountain on October 4, 1927. It took 14 years (October 31, 1941) and cost nearly $1 million. There were 400 workers involved in the project and thankfully no lives were lost.

This shot took place at an intersection and was pure luck. I did not know if I caught it or not.

I saw this 'fire poi' or fire spinning performance during the Venice Carnival. It was about the first time that I played with long exposure, and without a tripod too. I really like the effect the spinning fireball creates.

A sacred dance at a Pow Wow

This is a 30-second exposure of the International Bridge that links Sault Ste Marie Michigan to Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, Canada (also known as the twin Saults). Next to it is the International Railroad Bridge. This was one of my first night shot photos with my Sony A100.

On a warm August night We went to the river to wait for the full moon to rise. The local cruise boat was returning to dock. It is an old paddleboat named the Mississippi Belle. We can see the ducks on the dock by the reflection off the water.

This was taken during the celebration of Singapore National Day on 9 August 2006. That was the final time which the celebration was taken place at this 34 year-old National Stadium before it made way for the new multi-purpose national stadium.

I look forward to the Saturday before Thanksgiving every year. Our city lights the Christmas lights along the riverfront. There is a festival with buggy and carriage rides, hot chocolate, and Santa. After 6:00 pm comes my favorite part. FIREWORKS!! They are Red and green and LOTS of Gold!!

I really enjoy the fact that they have a lot of ground fireworks on this night. I see in this an overgrown brush with Glowing Cattails.

These were taken from my frong poarch and the fireworks were set off about 1 mile from the house.

To get blurs, as in tail lights of moving cars, hold down shutter for five seconds and zoom gradually while you have the shutter down; sudden zoom makes the lines jagged.

One of the world's prettiest bridges - a story book bridge! Always loved travelling to and from work over it.

An iron bridge over the Liffey river in Dublin. Ha'penny Bridge was opened in 1816. It was cast at Coalbrookdale in Shropshire in England, and its moniker appeared from the toll paid to cross the river - one old half penny.

The pond is at the bottom of the Henry Doorly Zoo Jungle building, and is very dark and dirty. I like the mix of moving and still fish. (I tagged this in the zoo album Wednesday and it hasn't shown up yet, so I'm trying it here. Hope it doesn't appear twice.)

LONG EXPOSURE ENTRY. The dock in Port Orford, Oregon is well lighted at night, creating bright reflections on the incoming waves of the Pacific as they wash ashore. There isn't any manipulation of this digital picture. Here's how I took it -- The picture was taken right after the sun went down and there was almost no light. I held an external flash in my hand. At 17mm I set exposure at 800ISO for f7.1 for 6seconds. I then had my kids stand in front of the camera as I set up my camera on a tripod and used a handheld shutter trigger to eliminate shake. I started the exposure ... immediately had the kids jump and I manually hit the flash to freeze them and as soon as they landed ... they ran off screen so as to not have any other ghosted images.

During The Long Night Of The Museum

When I first saw this challenge, I thought I did not have anything to enter. Then as I posted these photos from the Legend Weekend at the Phillipsburg Manor in Sleepy Hollow NY, I realized that my photos I took that night would definitely qualify. I was very frustrated that night with my new digital camera because I could not figure out the night settings and the slow shutter speed. Everything was coming out like in motion shots and blurry. However in some cases it ending up enhancing the shot, since this was supposed to be a spooky and eerie evening experience. I took this photo of the actor ghosts moving across to one another as they danced in the barn and it captured them in motion which gives them more of the illusion that they are transparent and real ghosts.

Ok folks - it says 1 second down on the information on my photo. however - I can tell you and you can tell by looking at it - that it was alot longer than one second to capture all that movement. I love this shot because there are 3 witches here, but there appears to be only two - since the two on the left side have blended together into an unusual combination of both. This was taken at night at the Legend Weekend in Sleepy Hollow.

Taken at the Legend Weekend, Phillipsburg Manor, Sleepy Hollow. this is a ghostly fiddler strolling through a haunted cemetery - the effect of the slow shutter and his movement made him look even more ghostly in my photo - doesn't it? this night mode on my camera was definitely slow believe me - not 1 sec like it says in the description! If my photos do not really meet the long exposure - well then just enjoy them!

We have a gas log fireplace on our deck and I thought it would be fun to experiment with pictures of it at night.

An experiment with tea lights spinning on tabletop lazy susan. I'm not completely happy with the overall image, but the result was interesting.

Each time I run across this picture, I wonder if the influence of the Ducks presence, such as feather oils, help create this image. I do know the pond surrounding shrubs provide the color.

The shutter was opened for a second or so while the crossing arms were raised after the train passed by.

The streams of light were created by setting the camera on the dash and driving while the shutter was open. I also changed the saturation and hue to make the light appear to be blue.

Maybe you just need to change the batteries !?!?

After many attempts, I finally figured out the right camera setting and lighting set up to get this shot. My son & his girlfriend are very good sports.

Stowe Pinnacle is 2,651 feet high. Hogback Mountain, on the right, is 3,440 feet high. They are part of Vermont's Green Mountains

Used the same technique of setting the exposure for the longest setting available, and then throwing and spinning the camera into the air while it took the picture. Again, I caught it.

Taken from my MI home using a manual 35mm SLR, and then digitized. I had to increase the contrast to bring it to black, but the color wasn't messed with. It was an amazing night!

Rule #1 When ever possible use a tripod and a cable release. A good rule of thumb for determining what you can "handhold" is that the shutter speed should be at least the inverse of the focal length of the lens. for instance ..50mm lens..minimum shutter speed 1/50 sec.

Panning with the action using a slow shutter speed helps convey a feeling of speed. Shot at 1/40 sec.

wonderful moon that night ... i loved seeing it and the reflections from the chandelier through the Paladian window over the front doors! i knew that using the flash would completely destroy the effects of the moon and the reflections ... so long exposure and no flash seemed the perfect solution. Of course, the verticals of this look much better, but whatz a gal to dooo??

The water looks soft and pretty in slow motion with leaves seemingly suspended in it with this long exposure shot.The water fall was freezing over in spots (it was a chilly 24 degree day). Brr

These balls really jumped off the table as they were hit! I used a longer exposure time with a flash to catch the motion and traveling jolt of light from the smack of the cue ball.

The top layer of water froze but allowed a small waterfall to flow.Shot with a longer exposure it looks like the falls froze too!

A C-130H of the Missouri Air National Guard Launches from Rosecrans Memorial Airport in St. Joseph, MO. Spirals of condensation are created by the propeller tips. 1/180 at f/9.5 to get the motion of the propellers.
