This lighthouse was build in response of the coastal liner 1908 Columbia shipwrecked at Punta Gorda, losing 87 lives. Seven other ships wrecked at this location. It closed in 1951.

Our backyard had quite a lot of daisies this year. They came (very) late and didn't stay long, but definitely made for some fun.

One of the songs for small kids which everyone knows (well, in The Netherlands, at least) goes: "op een grote paddestoel, rood met witte stippen." (on a big mushroom, red with white spots). It's a very cute song about a little dwarf falling off a mushroom and usually sung with all sorts of funny gestures. So I couldn't resist taking this picture when I spotted on of those (extremely poisonous) mushrooms.

Bicycles are a major means of transport here in The Netherlands. Kids tend to start off on bikes at a very early age. I came across this kids' bike just around the corner form our house and thought that it would make a nice picture for May.

These small flowers are one of the first signs of color each spring--a welcome end to the winter season.

We crossed the Dutch Border to visit this Castle. It used to be called Château Agimont and is situated only a few yards from the border in the Province of Limburg in Holland. It is the only terraced Castle in the Netherlands and is nowadays a restaurant. But it can be visited, including the wonderful Terraced gardens. The castle dates back from 1611, and the newer building dates back from 1698

We drove across the New River Gorge Bridge in West Virginia, found a one-way road down to the New River and enjoyed a different view of the bridge from below. P1070835

While hiking on the Bright Angel Trail at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, Arizona, I looked back up to watch the riders on the mules returning to the top of the canyon and noticed some other people watching from the very top of the rim. P1100585

to get the whole impression of those hanging strawberry fields in the Negev Desert I had to hold the camera rather high to get the field from below and get the tasty impression of all those tousands of strawberries at the bottom of the picture. The strawberry season in Israel is about to begin right now!

The Aula in the old university of Heidelberg. Stepping in this room was definitely a major experience. The size of the aula, the lights the walls with the galleries, the impressive ceiling, the paintings and statues. To get it all I nearly went down to the floor. (no flash and no tripod)

I happened to put my sun glasses down on the railing of the boardwalk, I turned around to retrieve them and saw this view, I couldn't resist.

As I was heading on up to climb the lighthouse I couldn't get over this spectacular view from the basin to the top..

Got creative behind the lens and shot this beautiful shot of Ponce De Leon Lighthouse behind a hibiscus flower, loved the bright colors. This lighthouse is located just south of Daytona Beach on the mid-eastern shoreline of Florida.

Looking up at the entrance to the University of Oxford Divinity School (1427-1483); Duke Humphrey's Library, the oldest part of the Bodleian Library, is upstairs. The Divinity School is the oldest building in Oxford specifically constructed for university use (although it no longer functions as a theological school). Missed Opportunity by the Union Army at Hazel Grove during the Battle of Fredericksburg to divide and defeat the Confederates. Instead, the Union Army was ordered to vacate & fall back to Chancellorsville by General Hooker losing a chance to obtain a needed victory.

The mural, representing those forces supporting the foot soldier, depicts Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard personnel and their equipment. The etchings are arranged to give a wavy appearance in harmony with the layout of the statues. The reflective quality of the Academy Black Granite creates the image of a total of 38 statues, symbolic of the 38th Parallel & 38 months of the war.
