01 - "Touching an Orange" - an outdoor exhibition in Rehovot (Israel)
published by: ykarelic4
100 statues of oranges designed by artists, celebrities and public personalities, are placed around the city that symbolizes the birth of citrus growing in Israel.
The "Touching an Orange" exhibition was initiated by the city of Rehovot, and takes place on August 2007 in the orange growing Minkov Museum in the city. The statues, designed by famous Israeli singers, actors, painters and sculptors as well as ministers and other public personalities, are placed among the trees of the first orange grove planted in Rehovot 117 years ago.
The creators of the oranges have designed their work with different styles and techniques, ones that characterize their artistic and public profession. Some of the statues were designed in the style of astronomical elements, inspired by different myths, using motifs from the days of the Moshava's pioneers, as well as works in the Baroque and Renaissance styles.
This exhibition is intended for promoting educational institutions and childrens organizations. At the end, the exhibits will be sold in auction. In addition, during the exhibition, the city will hold activities and outdoor events, and visitors will be able to walk in the paths of the first citrus grove.

Orange Sunrise At Talladega before the Nascar Race
published by: June232008
See the Infield sign in the lower lefthand corner? It was about 6:00 a.m. in the morning. It was very smoky due to the grills from the campgrounds. THIS PHOTO HAS NOT BEEN EDITED. You have to know that there are THOUSANDS of campers at this place. Over 200,000 people come to see the 2.66 mile oval race track as it has some of the best and fastest racing on the circuit. Much more fun to watch in person than on tv.

Neon Skimmer Dragonfly Beside The Pond {Selected Members Choice May 10 2008}
published by: segseven
The dragonfly begins its life as an egg. Adult female dragonflies lay their eggs in water. After about two weeks, the eggs hatch and an immature dragonfly, or nymph, emerges. The nymphs are not pretty like the adults. They have tiny wings and a large lower lip, which they use to catch their prey (often mosquito larvae). Dragonfly nymphs live in the water. As they grow, they molt (shed their skin). Nymphs of some species may take as long as three years to mature. When the dragonfly nymph reaches maturity, it crawls out of the water onto a plant stem. Then its skin begins to split. First the head, then the thorax, then the legs, and then the wings of an adult dragonfly emerge. Soon the newly emerged dragonfly is able to fly. The process takes about two hours. It takes about two days before the adult dragonfly's beautiful colors are fully developed. Adult dragonflies live only a few months.

Backside of Tiger Lilies
published by: segseven
Lilium lancifolium (syn. L. tigrinum) is a species of lily native to eastern Guam, in China, Korea and Japan. It is one of several species of lily to which the common name Tiger lily is applied, and the species most widely so known.
Like other true lilies, the flowers are borne on an erect stem 80200 cm tall, clothed with the more or less linear leaves 69 cm long and 12 cm broad. It is one of a very small number of species that produce aerial bulblets, known as bulbils, in the leaf axils along the stem. These can be used to propagate the plant. Flowers on the plant last for a short period of time before they wither and are replaced by newer flowers.
While most parts of the plant are edible for humans, the pollen is considered poisonous. All parts of the plant are toxic to cats, resulting in kidney failure in a few days after eating it.

Thomas, Jen and Clint.
published by: brian1707
This is an old shot of the kids (original was a slide, then a photograph of the slide and finally the photograph was scanned to this digital file - scanned from an old photograph album). All of this reprinting has added an "orangy" tone but it compliments Thomas' hair and the fall colors behind. This was probably the only time Jen was allowed to put her arm around her brother (that would explain her facial expression). He's the guy on the tricycle, who is now 40 with three kids of his own - how time flies!!

Physalis Pod
published by: sigfusson
I loved the glow from the light of the window thru this tropica fruit pod. As per Wikipedia: Physalis is a genus of plants in the nightshade family (Solanaceae), native to warm temperate and subtropical regions throughout the world. The genus is characterised by the small orangey fruit similar in size, shape and structure to a small tomato, but partly or fully enclosed in a large papery husk derived from the calyx. Collectively, they are referred to as groundcherries but many species are well-known to humans and have more fanciful names.

Two shades of Orange are seen in this photo of a window and wall from the seaside town of Camogli in Liguria, Italy. I could not believe that citrus fruits were growing already in late March but these on the ground of Villa Monastero looked already ripe and ready to pick. Even with the snow covered mountains surrounding Lake Como, it enjoys an unusually mild climate. When I took this photo in late March the tempurature was in the high 50's, low 60's-just right for a light sweater or jacket.

I turned this one around and made it smaller so it fits--not so vertical.. I had so much fun taking these shots..I just sat down in the middle of these flowers and just kept snapping shots..the camera at times had a problem focusing--they were moving so much, going from flower to flower..but the more shots I took--the easier it got to time when they would move --just get it focused and hold the button down and snap fast LOL

California Poppy
published by: _yoko12
The California poppy is the California state flower. It was selected as the state flower by the California State Floral Society in December 1890, winning out over the Mariposa lily (genus Calochortus) and the Matilija poppy (Romneya coulteri) by a landslide, but the state legislature did not make the selection official until 1903. Its golden blooms were deemed a fitting symbol for the Golden State. April 6 of each year is designated "California Poppy Day." Palm Springs, California

published by: EGKeithPhotography
This is not fake. We went to Red Rocks to take some pictures at dusk, and when we were leaving I took some shots of the outdoor lights. I had my tripod and my remote control, and I tested different speeds and apertures. The result looks fake, but it's not. That's just the way it came (I increased a little bit the contrast, and nothing else).
