"OUT OF PLACE" This is a very judgemental statement. Who is to say what is the place for us, and what isn't? In the picture we are definetily out of our natural place. This is elephant territory. The elephant wants to cross the road, and we are in his way. But are we realy out of place, or do we have the right to visit this territory, and observe this magnificent creatures?

A few days ago we celebrated Charles Darwin's 200th birthday. Darwin developed his Evolution theory after observing the unique wildlife in the Galapagos islands. Even today, the sea lions, and other wildlife, do not mind human presence. When visiting Galapagos Islands, you have the feeling that you step in another world, or that you are "Out of Place". I have uploaded my "Galapagos" album. Please stop by.

The Prague Dance House
published by: sweetguyka
The Prague Dance House is considered 'out of place', because it stands as the only example of deconstructivist architecture within all the Baroque and Rococo buildings on Vltava enbankment.
I like a lot this building, architects of which are Vlado Milunic and Frank Gehry. The building is also called Ginger & Fred, referring to Ginger Rogers and Fred Astair, the legendary dance duo. The building seems very plastic, mobile and alive to me.

Swimming Deer
published by: ALDitzler
You have to click on this one to really see what we caught one day- I NEVER thought this was possible- or just happened. We glanced out the lakefront window to see "something" moving/swimming across the lake. To our surprise, it was confirmed through binoculars to be an 8-pt whitetail buck! Take into consideration the water is at least 15 ft. deep, the lake is 27 acres around- which makes it easily 250+ yards across and we live in Southwestern Pennsylvania (USA)not Scotland near the lochs! LOL. Oh, n' it did make it across a& into the woods :0)

This is the main road just outside our neighborhood. We live near the Pompton and Passaic Rivers, and quite often the geese are walking across or down the roads, and yes they act like they have the right of way and it is THEIR road. And in singular contradiction of that wintry emblem
published by: kidlib1
This is a line from my favorite story, A Christmas Carol. It's the first thing I thought of when I saw the picture- the baby bird, a symbol of spring, looks very out of place in the Christmas wreath, a definite winter symbol. Turns out the owner of the house was very slow in taking down her decorations and when she went to take the wreath down, found the birds nest with eggs in it. She had to wait until they all flew off before taking it down. I long thought that this was the only bird left when an observant Scout pointed out the teeny tiny eyes just popping out from the wreath. It still looks like one bird, though. :) Please view in full size.

Skitz is what I call an "up-kitty". He always wants to be above everything. From the time he was a kitten he practiced precision jumping, and he rarely misses a jump. He would not consider this an example of "out of place" because in his mind every place is his place.

Old photo of an 1872 store - Do you see what is out of place?
published by: police370
The Old Sautee Store is one of a handful of pre-1900 retail establishments in northeast Georgia. When it was built in 1872 it was a true general store. Local residents would come to the store to purchase food, seed, or farm equipment. It served as a local post office for Sautee-Nachoochee until 1913 and as post office for Sautee until 1962. I have color and sepia albums on this old store.

Stonehenge in Michigan
published by: MsElanna
Stonehenge in someones front yard? I honestly thought I was in Michigan.
Why should Great Britain have all the good Druidic ruins? That is what one Michigan couple has evidently asked themselves, and come up with their own solution. Fred and Pam Levin, rural Nunica, have turned the front yard of their seven-acre horse farm into a foam-and-stucco sculpture replicating England's Stonehenge. The Levins went online to find the original site's actual measurements, then tinkered a bit. The foam megaliths in the Levin yard stand thirteen feet tall, almost the same height as Stonehenge, but the arrangement's diameter is only about half that of the original set. A contractor did the work in six weeks for them, using a variety of photographs as a placement guide. Each foam block is anchored by a metal beam set into the ground below. The couple is interested in sacred spaces from a variety of belief systems worldwide, and has also created a Cretan labyrinth-style meditation path and an American Indian medicine wheel garden. Fred, an orthopedic surgeon, has also enlarged a natural spring on his property to add ponds and streams. The Stonehenge sculpture is on private property, no trespassing allowed, but can be seen from the road. Just south of town on Leonard Road.

Concrete ship 4
published by: kidlib1
Seeing a ship made of concrete would look out of place anywhere, but seeing the remains of one in the middle of the ocean definitely looks out of place! This is a famous site in Cape May, NJ. The ship was constructed during WWI but was eventually found to be "impractical". It was docked in Cape May, but one night a huge storm tore it loose and it floated a bit, before getting stuck in the sand. It couldn't be moved, so has stayed there for many years, slowly being eaten away by the power of the water. For sure, when the ship is all gone, the empty water will look out of place as well! See more information on the concrete ship here (photo 7 of this album): http://outdoors.webshots.com/photo/2306725240013862179BhWQNi?vhost=outdoors
