We recently met a service dog at a convention that reminded us of our late Sandy.

One day I will be able to eat this stuff too.

Fuzz Ball's mother was a feral cat living in a nearby barn. She was killed by a passing vehicle and we knew she had been pregnant. We went looking for the kittens and found Fuzz Ball. We found her a great home and she is all grown up now. Periodically, we receive photos of her.

Sometimes our elderly end up in nursing homes and their lives can be quite lonley at times. I cannot tell you just how amazing it is to experience such a touching moment, a bonding, a friendship like this. This is furry friend and daily visitor Nelson, doing what he does best !

Chloe gets washed at home every week and once every 3 months she gets washed and clipped by the dog washer who comes to home. She had a rash so the medicated shampoo has to be left on for 10 mins. I could hear her yelping from inside the house, so I rushed out to find this funny sight! She wanted out of that bath quick smart!

This picture had been taken in Hemingway house in Key West (FL) In that house many cats live (as Hemingway was found of cats). Some of them are polydactyl, having six toes, due to a physical anomaly. Cats with this genetically inherited trait are most commonly found along the East Coast of the US and in South West England and Wales.

This is taken just as darkness started falling. The safari guide had a spotlight on the lions (there were a few more in the darkness). He explained that the lions basically see the vehicle and passengers as one object, being much larger than they are, so they don't attack. These lions walked past the side of the vehicle and off into the darkness.

Mimi (a.k.a. Mischa). She was upset with me, wouldn't have anything to do with me for a few hours. Apparently I broke some major clause in our contract when I closed the window and she couldn't play with the raindrops on the windowsill. I'm such a meanie. ;)

Goo is a Chinese Crested, and she's one of my "granddaughters". To get that expression, all you have to do is lay her on your lap, give her a belly rub, take the picture .... and flip it upside down. :)

We rescued Bella in late July 2010 from an oil company parking lot by the river. She has the BEST personality. My daughter is holding her here, and Bella is winking at me, which my vet has told me in cat language is a kiss and "I love you"!!!

On a spring day in April that alternated between sunny and cloudy periods, my camera and I went for a walk in search of springtime blossoms. They would become some of the last images captured with my wonderful Panasonic DMC-FZ28. In a few weeks it would stop working unexpectedly, and for good. I did not know that at the time, however, and this cat caught my attention. I think I caught his, too.

At a barbeque this past summer - and yes it already feels like summer has passed with the cool weather at the moment - Cumba had so much fun. Easily 10 years old, he took to the water like a puppy, and eagerly played fetch again and again. And again. What a good boy!

In June we went for a short vacation to the beautiful Oregon Coast, only to find that the sun was not to be found :) It happens. However I was enjoying my walk on the beach regardless of the weather. There is something compelling and majestic about that surf which pounds the beach again and again, and something very relaxing, too. The air smells of salt, and I can never get enough of that endless roar. ~ Because my previous camera was no longer working, I had gotten a new one just the day before the road trip, and was still very much in the process of becoming familiar with all the settings and features. And so I was initially disappointed that this precise moment, while the seagull had one leg firmly planted on the ground, and the other one already lifted in thrust, was captured in unintentional black and white. Yet on a second look it proved to be a happy mistake, because the dullness which had been creeping into the colour photos was suddenly transformed into drama. ~ Sometimes Black&White is the best choice! ~ originally posted @ http://kardzbykris.wordpress.com/2011/08/26/take-off/

There is only one but he is pretty sociable--sticks around and poses for photos (or at least doesn't run away!)

Shadow defends us from the dangers of the neighborhood dogs. This is the same photo as "Kill the Ribbon 2" in this album. I decided to use the burn in tool to eliminate the distracting background. I also thought that the ribbon, while it showed why Shadow is in that pose, was also distracting because it wasn't connected to anything so I cloned it out.

"I spy with my little eye, a beautiful birdie in the sky!" **** This is the same as the lead photo in this album, but I found the partial red collar a little distracting so I cropped it out. I also tweaked the lighting to get a little more detail in her face and to brighten the eye a bit.

This adorable little guy is Ruger! He's our newest chocolate friend around the house. He is sitting here amidst a mound of stuffed animals that he shares with Rocky and Tyson. Ruger is actually off to grad school with his buddy who is working towards her DVM degree and I hear he sports around a white coat that proclaims him to be "Dr. Barker"...he's VERY advanced for his age!

Mollie wanted to catch this bird but I was there to stop her. It is written all over her face but she knew better than to go for it. Ms Mollie Motormouth was also adopted by me when she came to my house with a bb gun hole in her side. She only weighed about 3 lbs and now she is a fat sassy 4 yr. old.

Trucker was cold and crawled under the blankets and caught him sleeping.

Missy was first and formost my baby and best friend, and secondly my service dog. In my opinion...and others, she was the best dog in the world. She had hundreds of friends and very few enemies. (only knew 3 or 4 people she was afraid of)...she loved people, esp children. She loved to go out in public, esp to wal-mart, and meet people and give kisses. She was well behaved where ever she went, even in church and the hospital. She sucumed to cancer in 2010, sweet and brave to the end. I miss her terribly.

The two horses were playing with each other and Delilah, the dog in the jacket, was having a good time chasing them. The other two dogs accidentally ran in on the scene while they were playing with each other. They are both scared of the dark horse, Ardi, who chased them right out of the picture. Nobody was hurt and it was a pretty funny picture.
