I wrote this question in the snow on my van... could not resist.... Here in New Jersey there is very little sign of spring - we had snow 3 times last week and more is expected this weekend.

Taken 21-Mar-11, supposedly the 2nd full day of spring and we had a snow storm.... my poor tulip trying to come up. this hardy plant comes up every year since 2008 but never has a flower - maybe this year?

After the long winter in the mountain these light pink flowers bloom in all their beauty!

After the winter hibernation these shy bunnies come out from their lairs and look forward to the coming spring. Photo taken in the park near my home.

Hellebores hang down very close to the ground as they open. This is how it looked to the camera as I pointed it up at the flower. Of course the trees are also upside down. Truly a point, shoot, and hope for the best.

When we get a little winter rain these beauties emerge from the deep sand - our spring flowers. In the background others ready to bloom. - (Cistanche tubulosa) - Desert hyacinth is all-flower bearing parasite plant, growing on roots of desert shrubs. It is a rare and endangered species. Desert hyacinth is unable to synthesise chlorophyll directly and therefore has no green colouration.

Multnomah Falls is the most famous landmark in Oregon. It is also the biggest tourist attraction in Oregon. With Benson lake in the foreground and some of the new spring growth in the trees and mist in the air, this is not my usual shot of this 600 plus foot falls.

This photo has not been altered in any way. The lighting was amazing. Very dark storm clouds all around and all of the sudden, as I was driving on the freeway, the sun dropped below the clouds and brightly illuminated a beautiful wetland area at the west end of the Gorge. The Cherry Blossom tree really stands out from all the other trees that have yet to bud this spring.

I am always happy when spring comes because it means I can start venturing out on my historic trips and my hikes in the woods. Our 2nd hike of the spring was Mar 27th and this was our destination - the Hemlock Falls.

Spring migration

Spring is when little animal babies are born- sometimes with big appetites!

I suppose I love daffodils because they are strong regardless of the temperature and give us promise of warmer weather and flowers to come.

Trillium erectum, also known as Wake-robin, red trillium, purple trillium, Beth root or Stinking Benjamin, is a spring-flowering perennial plant native to the east and north-eastern areas of North America. The flowers are a deep red colour, and the plant takes its name Wake-robin by analogy with the Robin, which has a red breast that heralds spring. ~Wiki

The first blooming vine in our area is the beautiful wisteria vine. ~ Wisteria (also spelled Wistaria) is a genus of flowering plants in the pea family, Fabaceae, that includes ten species of woody climbing vines native to the eastern United States and the East Asian states of China, Korea, and Japan. Aquarists refer to the species Hygrophila difformis, in the family Acanthaceae, as Water Wisteria ~Wiki

Once springtime arrives the Golden finches arrive for a brief visit before they continue their journey North. This year they came in the middle of March and are still here. When the time is right they will fly away until next spring.

The beginning of spring here in the sunshine state means the new pond lillys arrive. There are many colors in many ponds across the state.

Here in Florida it is springtime when the Hummingbirds reappear. This one is a female visiting an aloe vera plant.

This was wonderful to see: My first snow crocus was blooming, smiling at me while it was still surrounded by snow and ice. I smiled back, happy to know, that spring arrives at some point and day, every year! (0403-684k)

The Second Day of Spring!

"Back in town a little early?"........"So, where did you vacation for winter?"

The first week of spring, a few Robins were present during this snowfall and rather confused too!

this is a picture I took in February. Nature already had become green after the rain, but the intense red of the Anemone always is like a shock to me. Here - I think - I caught the right moment.

The yellow flowers are always the first appearing in spring. They attract the frosty bees and they shine like stars on the green. This bee was already lucky to gather lots of honey as you can see.

The ruins of Apollonia - the city of Apollo - later called Arsuf on the shores of the Mediterranean. It was a wonderful surprise to visit Apollonia in spring; Millions of flowers and a green carpet had grown on the sand due to the winter's rain.
