Desert hyacinth

When we get a little winter rain these beauties emerge from the deep sand - our spring flowers. In the background others ready to bloom. - (Cistanche tubulosa) - Desert hyacinth is all-flower bearing parasite plant, growing on roots of desert shrubs. It is a rare and endangered species. Desert hyacinth is unable to synthesise chlorophyll directly and therefore has no green colouration.

Amazing Light & Contrast

This photo has not been altered in any way. The lighting was amazing. Very dark storm clouds all around and all of the sudden, as I was driving on the freeway, the sun dropped below the clouds and brightly illuminated a beautiful wetland area at the west end of the Gorge. The Cherry Blossom tree really stands out from all the other trees that have yet to bud this spring.

The ruins of Apollonia - the city of Apollo - later called Arsuf on the shores of the Mediterranean. It was a wonderful surprise to visit Apollonia in spring; Millions of flowers and a green carpet had grown on the sand due to the winter's rain.
