No shadow here, but spring has already arrived in West Virginia! ☺

Even the anticipation of spring can cause one to leap with joy. ~That or cold water! lol

Reflected color from a 4:30 PM sunset is a reminder that already the days are growing longer whether the groundhog sees his shadow or not.

The water is dark and cold but the thin ice at the edge looks like early Spring.

This could be where Mactaquac Matt as he is known in New Brunswick, lives. I will keep my eye on the spot to check whether or not he sees his shadow.

Gate is waist deep in snow and his shadow is visible behind him,but he can not see it so that does not count.....besides he is not a Groundhog anyway!!

Still too tight for frost to affect them, later in year is a different story.

Sometimes begin to emerge in January and February and continue well into spring. Amazing plant.

The Deer come down to graze all along the walking trail. As I was taking the photos of the Deers a person asked if I had seen the Mountain Lion that was stalking the Deer.

Branch Brook Park in Essex County, NJ is the largest park in the city of Newark with 360 acres. The park is noted for having over 4000 cherry blossom trees in more than fourteen varities.

The mixture of warm spring air with winter's icy water makes beautiful foggy scenery. Taken 4/12/08

Has the winter gone...is it spring yet?

WATER IS ESSENTIAL TO ALL LIVING THINGS.

Took this shot two days after Groundhog Day (Feg-04-08). The Groundhog must have seen his shadow on Feb 02, got scarred and ran back into his burrow, which--according to the legend--means, that winter is not over by a long shot! And so it was, we got a lot more snow, winter went on forever. (p4486-731k)

Spring was in the air! I could take my coat off!! Granville Gulf in Vermont was a sight to see! Ice and snow were melting, Amazing was, that some ice formations were shimmering blue! It was a glorious day!

This was wonderful to see: My first snow crocus was blooming, smiling at me while it was still surrounded by snow and ice. I smiled back, happy to know, that spring arrives at some point and day, every year! (0403-684k)

When spring will arrive these strange creatures will die...

It is unusual for a begonia to bloom during winter time. What is more, my begonia grows in the water!

The winter sky contracts the sea grape leaves, they start red and turn green. In the sub tropics the change from winter to spring is hard to notice.

We are having a major ice storm. Everything in Des Moines is covered in ice. Trees are starting to fall and 26000 have been without power. This winter we have had temperatures at 16 below with windchill up to 35 below. this is the worst winter in years. The last major ice storm was back in 1993. I predict we will see more of the same until April.

Peeking Out, Wondering if Spring is Coming~

The Sheldon Reynolds Falls in Ricketts Glen State Park appears to be inviting us to share its mystical world beauty of melting ice and snow.

Greetings at the front porch to my cabin in the North Georgia Mountains. Later this year, the garden will be filled with Day Lily flowers. I plant tulip bulbs between the Day Lily plants.

Snow on the roof, tropical paradise underneath. I can't decide if it's going to be an early spring or long winter, but I can always go to the butterfly conservatory for my fill of tropical goodness until summer does roll around.

The China Rose in our balcony is waiting for spring to come but the weather outside is winter with temp. below freezing and snow. The leaves are curled due to the cold. The cold weather will leave tomorrow fortunately and we hope the bud will not be effected .

Thanks to El Niño, we're having rain showers instead of snow storms. I'm hoping it forecasts an early spring.

Snow and ice still linger, but the sunset-lit sky give us hope that spring will soon be here!!

Henry sits gazing on a cold winter evening, hoping for spring. The beautiful sunset gives him hope that tomorrow will be a better day and spring will soon be here.

The snow makes us realize winter is still here, but the beautiful winter skyline lets us know spring will soon be here.

The groundhog says "Spring has sprung!"

The Almonds bloom when all the other plants still hide. - Today - while uploading this picture - is the 15th of the month Shevat. This day is according to the Jewish calender the begin of the New Year for Trees & Plants. At this time of the year the first trees begin to bloom. The first of all is the Almond tree. - We use to celebrate the day by planting young trees all over the country and eat dried fruits and nuts.

Always the first scrub found in bloom. It seems to me, the bloom ist more intense after a hard winter - - or at the end of a hard winter

After a long Winter...some early signs of greening

Winter's hold lingers on Crater Lake well into spring. In fact, while it includes snow and ice on the lake, this photo was taken just a few days before the first day of summer. Of course, midwinter can bring in excess of 40 feet (13 meters) of snow there, so winter really has transitioned into spring in this scene.
