HAPPY HALLOWEEN FROM YOSEMITE - TWISTED MONSTER OF YOSEMITE
published by: srapada
Two hikers stopped in their tracks as they hiked that trail near Taft Point. There was a full moon that lit the trail as clouds drifted across its light. They could not imagine what monster lurked along the trail. They waited and the monster waited. The flashlight deepened the shadows of the monster's twisted body. It's face was distorted beyond anything they could have imagined. It was a long frightening night.

Spirited Piano viewed through a Bullet Hole in the Window
published by: srapada
This shot was taken during the last days of the Ghost Town before it was going to be replaced by a strip mall development. I shot this through a window of the saloon and thought the bullet hole in the glass would add an interesting touch. When I got home and downloaded the shot, I found a face in the bullet hole in the glass. Do you see it. It took me a while to figure it out what luck had produced this shot. Happy Halloween.

Tupilak, Greenland
published by: inuit1963
Tupilak, Greenland
In Greenlandic Inuit (Kalaallit) folklore, a tupilaq was an avenging monster fabricated by a practitioner of witchcraft or shamanism by using various objects such as animal parts (bone, hair, etc...) The creature was given life by being allowed to ##### the vital essence or life force from its creator's sexual organs. It was then placed into the sea to seek and destroy a specific enemy. The use of a tupilaq was risky, however, because if it was sent to destroy someone who had greater magical powers than the one who had formed it, it could be sent back to kill its maker instead, although the maker of tupilaq could escape by public confession of his/her own deed. Because tupilaqs were made in secret, in isolated places and from perishable materials, none have been preserved. Early European visitors to Greenland, fascinated by the native legend, were eager to see what tupilaqs looked like so the Inuit began to carve representations of them out of Sperm Whale. Today, tupilaqs of many different shapes and sizes are carved from various materials such as narwhal and walrus tusk, wood and caribou antler. They are an important part of Greenlandic Inuit art and are highly prized as collectibles.

The Night Of Halloween
published by: grotbags100
Some folks say ,
by the light of the day,
they don't believe it's true,
That Ghosts will haunt
far from their homes
and the Witches make their brew
Do you know
when the lights are low
they don't seem quite so keen
And they don't dare go anywhere
On the Night Of Halloween

OK - so this isn't exactly candlelight but I thought it had many of the same characteristics. The interior light for the pumpkin is actually a little green LCD light that I thought added to the spookiness of the photo (more so than the original candle). All other light is done via "light painting" with a small flash light.

Spiderlings hatching just in time to go trick or treating
published by: lemme39
Brady found these as he was weeding. What an exciting find. And me with my camera. Check it out full size but don't get grossed out. I wonder how many little spiderlings are in there. The egg sack is under a daylily leaf so the size of it is actually quite small, 1/2 to 1 inch in diameter.

This photo was accepted in the 2009 FOCUS NJ Artist Gallery last November, Art Center of Northern NJ in New Milford NJ. Taken at sunset in the National Cemetery, Gettysburg PA. Only addition to the photo was from Picnic of the bat, and I enhanced the moon to make it show clearer. As you can see the colors were amazing that night.
