A little digital fun with one of my Kentucky farm pictures. Originally, it was a light rain that could not be noticed. Our newspaper last week stated that the week before the announcement of the CC for storms that we had the three worst storms in years. We were ready to head to the basement and guess what I did not do? Take pictures. Perfect bad timing and no more storms in the near future. The original picture is shown next.

I hauled this out of an older album. I remember getting up just before dawn, flicking on the deck light and just staring in astonishment. It was April 8th.

I like how there's just a little bit of light coming through the darkness of the clouds

I like, too, how the green trees look against the dark clouds.

This is typical San Francisco weather that goes so well with the city's best known icon. Luckily for me, the weather cleared up while I was walking to the other side of the bridge, so I got to enjoy it in all sort of lighting situations.

This thunderstorm had thrown some heavy rain & lots of hail on us a few minutes later - but I loved the contrast between the light colored rock & the darkening sky...

This sht was taken after a rainstorm in Zion NP. While the weather itself was unpleasant while the rain lastet, the photos after it were well worth a little rain...

Santiago de Compostela (also Saint James of Compostela) is the capital of the autonomous community of Galicia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located in the north west of Spain. The city's Cathedral is the destination today, as it has been throughout history, of the important 9th century medieval pilgrimage route, the Way of St. James. *Unbelievably this photo has won last week's CC. Wet stormy weather in the English Lake District

York Minster in sunshine after a rain storm. The Minster is the largest English Medieval Cathedral, and also the largest Gothic Cathedral in Western Europe. The present building was built from the 13th to the 15 centuries.

This one really caught me off guard. It was by far the biggest wave .... didn't see another one like it. There are signs at the harbour warning people about the dangers of walking along the wall. There have been numerous incidents where people have been washed off the wall. Not all can be rescued in time either.

The sun made a brief appearance on our snowy Easter Sunday, but this was only a taste of what was to come ...

A Spring snowstorm brought us over 2 1/2 feet of the white stuff this past weekend.

Almost 3 feet of snow wasn't going to keep this Flicker from his dinner. Taken this past Saturday at my neighbor's.

75 MPH wind gusts and heavy rains were reported in Vinyard Haven as TS Noel passed by the island of Martha's Vineyard in November 2007.

This photo was published, in color, 5x7, on p. 12A of the Sunday, December 16, 2007 "The Daily Courier" in a section called "Best Shots," submissions from readers.

On May 13, 2008 a freakish snowstorm hit Mingus Mountain.

These clouds were moving and shifting so fast it was surreal. I later learned that a tornado had touched down and lifted a truck on the nearby highway.

This beach visitor did not allow steady rain to deter his walk on the beach with his dog.

Clouds before the rain

In black and white one is able to see the rain that was coming down sideways. At one point the rain was averaging two inches an hour!

Snowboarders at Mammoth Mountain, CA head off the slopes as a late afternoon blizzard rages.

One should never venture out in a storm, even if it is off in the distance. I caught this lightning bolt, but it scared me so much that I ran for cover as soon as the clap of thunder rolled over head.

This is an older picture that I messed around with last year, but I thought appropriate for this challenge. It is a culmination of several photos that were cut and pasted to form what I call, "The Storm."

If you have some seconds, view it "full size" please, to see all the details, people taking photos, etc...Well, maybe snow is nothing special to you but let me tell you that in Madrid, its really really special. In the 32 years I do live here its the 3rd time!

Red sky in the morning - Sailors warning goes the old saying. 1.5 hours after this was taken the rain threw it down all day!

Across the salt marsh is the RSPB bird reserve.

Not a very friendly landscape, but still beautiful. You can olmost touch the clouds.

And a few minutes later the lightning bolts and hailstones were all around us. What a noise that makes in such a place!

The day was actually beautiful, but we were graced by nice dramatic clouds...

After a nite of flooding, we were four foot under, sigh. The flood had started to recede when this foto was taken.

What we awoke to. Just a quick moment of sunrise and then the sun was gone. The fish pond was in front of the birdbath, and it had all merged with the "CreeK" - which is, in actual fact, a river.

THIS IS ANOTHER PHOTO I LOVE. YOU CAN ALMOST HEAR THE SNOW FALLING BECAUSE OF THE PEACEFULNESS OF THIS LANE.

It looked friendly enough, but the sky was a weird steel grey and very, very calm and then the storm hit. I used this in a "Reflection" challenge a few years ago, but thought I'd use for what it was - a storm to remember.

These awesome bubbly clouds are beautiful, but we wondered what kind of storm we were in for.

I took this photo of this swirling cloud and watched for a funnel cloud all the way home, but never saw one.

This is what our cows looked like the day after a 2 day blizzard. The snow had partially melted and turned to ice. Several calves lost their ears because of the ice.

I went up to the hills this evening after a storm to get pictures of the sunset. On the way up I was treated to a double rainbow. This picture the second rainbow has faded but I like how the clouds are sprinkling rain and sunlight is breaking thru the rainbow. Hope you enjoy.

We were in Tiberias for 3 days. 2 days were clear. This morning was very unusual, with large waves crashing against the shore. As I walked along taking it all in, the sun broke out of the clouds, and of course the view was way better in person.

This looks scary and it did rain. But can you imagine that some people were still hiking?

After a hot 95 degree day. Thunderclouds rolled in for an evening light show. The storm lasted over 4 hours. I see a face...two eyes and lightning bolts from his nose.

Look closely...It's a double rainbow.

We had quite a wind storm for several days. On this day we had gusts over 50MPH. This windstorm lasted 13 days and the winds gusted to almost 70MPH during that time. The small gusts were only 25-30 mph, but again, it blew 24-7 for 13 days! It was also during our coldest time of the year and the wind chill was well below zero!

This photo has not been altered in any way. The lighting was amazing. Very dark storm clouds all around and all of the sudden, as I was driving on the freeway, the sun dropped below the clouds and brightly illuminated a beautiful wetland area at the west end of the Gorge. The Cherry Blossom tree really stands out from all the other trees that have yet to bud this spring.

This photo is not a black and white photo. It is in color but due to the lack of light and the heavy snowfall it almost looks black and white. We were traveling on the highway in Colorado and had to stop it was snowing so hard.

The sky was clearing quite quickly as we left Kotor, Montenegro. It was our captain's last voyage before retirement and we were near his home town. He circled the island monastery as the monastery's bells were sounded in his honor as were the bells from the nearby town as we appraoched. He replied to the honor with a toot from the ship's horn. The double rainbow honor was a gift from a higher power.

Sailors take warning... HDR comprised of three photographs taken from my backyard.

All of the Ewa Beach shots were taken on the waterfront in my backyard. The sun actually sets over the water for only two months out of the year from here. I'll spend the next ten months following the sun up and down the coast until it comes back. On this particular day it got downright biblical. I kept expecting Gozar to drop down out of the clouds.

Better stay home today and get the fire in the fireplace going.

You can always count on the cardinal to show up even in bad weather.

The Mourning Dove is a medium-sized, slender dove approximately 31 cm (12 in) in length. Mourning Doves weigh an average of 4 to 6 ounces.The elliptical wings are broad, and the head is rounded. Its tail is long and tapered. Mourning Doves have perching feet, with three toes forward and one reversed. The legs are short and reddish colored. The beak is short and dark, usually a brown-black hue.

Finding this place deserted is a very rare moment... It can only happen when a storm is on its way... But not every storm can force the visitors away...

Looks like a sunset but it is only 6:15 PM on April 23, 2009 as the dark clouds roll in and the rain is coming from the left on the distant ridge behind my house far from sunset time. It never got any closer.

Something we hardly ever see anymore, now that we live in the Treasure Valley of Idaho.

We have had two weeks of very unusual weather for this desert place -- large hail storms, lightening, sandstorms followed by rain (we will take all the rain we can get here). Photo taken after a storm passed through - I was trying to catch a rainbow but couldnt drive fast enough on the sand road -

This was the storm-darkened sky before the rain clouds rolled in. It really was a beautiful contrast, and pleasant surprise as I thought I was just taking pictures of the dark clouds at first.

The ice storm of December 2007 turned this forgotten barn and fallow field into an ice sculpture. The falling down barn looked even more forlorn with a coat of ice. We can only imagine the small creatures hiding there from the storm and cold.

The setting sun cannot break through the heavy clouds of impending stormy weather, it can only highlight what is coming with a red warning.

Heavy ice coats this little tree to remind us of the storm just past, leaving a beautiful sculpture standing in the yard.

Doesn't look too extreme until you move off-grid and you daily commute includes a mile long e hike in the snow to get to the car and make it to work ;-))
