Brasov City Hall (left) and Central Post Office (right)
published by: ykarelic4
Situated in the heart of Romania, the city of Brasov benefits from the influence of an ancient history. Much before the discovery of written documents, the archaeologists discovered traces of civilization going back to the Bronze Age.
Other archaeological sites found in different places around Brasov prove that there lived a strong community of native population, mixed later on with Roman colonists developing into the Romanian population.

winter serenity ...

D01775 Lyn Adams - Charles Kuralt platform on Mattamuskeet - a special place - a sacred place - miles from the familiar - miles from the busy pace of our lives ...
A winter walk at Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge in far eastern NC is quite a bit off the beaten path, but well worth the 3 hour drive from my home in Morrisville. This is the time of the year when you might see some of the thousands of Tundra Swans that over-winter in this region (having traveled over 4,000 miles from northern Alaska to get here). But more than that, it is a place of sanctuary and solitude, a place to pray and to contemplate the world of nature and all the things that comprise ... the roads less traveled ...

published by: lemme39
The night before a garden walk, we remove all the blooms and spent blossoms from thousands of daylilies . It took 9 people almost 2 hours and about breaks my heart. My daughter calls that evening and says the compost pile was beautiful so we jump on the golf cart, use the lights and take a picture. It was. The next day, there was a full bloom and not a spent blossom in sight. Also very beautiful, well worth all the effort and my tears for the beautiful blooms we removed.

Wild Lupine I
published by: garywallabr
These beautiful wild flowers can be seen in purple, pink and white and grow wild in the mountians of Colorado.
Lupine or lupinloo'p?n, any species of the genus Lupinus, annual or perennial herbs or shrubs of the family Leguminosae (pulse family). These leguminous plants have been cultivated in the Mediterranean region since ancient times for enriching the soil. The seeds of some species have been roasted or boiled and used as food to some extent in that locality and in the Andes, and the leafy parts are used as forage both there and in America. Some of the many species native to the American West are poisonous as forage, causing the disease lupinosis to which sheep are especially susceptible. Poisonous species and their effects have not been fully determined. As a garden flower the lupine is a favorite because of the various colors and the tall spikes of bonnet-shaped blossoms. The leaves are usually composed of leaflets radiating to form a rounded handlike leaf. Certain movements, as from the horizontal to a vertical position, are characteristic of the leaves of some of these plants, e.g., the common wild lupine (L. perennis), also called sundial and quaker bonnet. The bluebonnet, or buffalo clover (L. subcarnosus), is the state flower of Texas, where it carpets the plains in springtime with its blue blossoms. In Scotland the name bluebonnet is given to the cornflower. The false lupine belongs to the genus Thermopsis. Lupine is classified in the division Magnoliophyta, class Magnoliopsida, order Rosales, family Leguminosae.
