Leopold II is one of the nastier characters in history. His daughter Stephanie had to fight him for her inheritance some time after her husband Rudolf skipped on her and committed suicide with his mistress, ending Stephanie's future. Leopold II brutalized the Belgian Congo that he treated as his private reserve.* She was a daughter of Palatine Joseph of Hungary and Duchess Maria Dorothea von Wurttemberg. When she was 17 she married 18 year old Prince Leopold of Belgium, the heir to the throne, on August 22, 1853. They had four children: * Princess Louise-Marie of Belgium (1858-1924). A notorious "flirt." She married Prince Philipp of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and skipped on the marriage. * Prince Leopold, Duke of Brabant (1859-1869). Died at the age of ten. * Princess Stephanie of Belgium (1864-1945). Married Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria-Hungary who comitted double suicide in 1889 Rudolf at Mayerling with his mistress, the seventeen-year-old Baroness Mary Vetsera. The couple had a daughter, the "Red Duchess" Erszi. * Princess Clementine of Belgium (1872-1955). She married Prince Victor Napoleon.
