Late September at Glacier National Park. As the seasons change, so too does the scenery. The greens of summer explode into a great contrast of colors and the highly changable weather casts random light upon the entire scene. Truly a photographer's dream.

The Himalayas have inspired man for generations, people from near and far. As a young Management Trainee, I had the opportunity of working not far way from the foothill of the Himalayas, at one of the few Industrial towns of Himachal Pradesh called Baddi.

This is a trip that myself and 2 buddies took in August of 2007. We took the Amtrak train from Chicago to East Glacier, Montana. Then took a shuttle from there to Many Glacier and hiked for 7 days. Amazing trip and I'd highly recommend the park!!!

Taken from the narrow observation platform not otherwise accessible. This is about as close as we got. See the sharp/sheered face of Hubbard Glacier - it's 5 or 6 miles in the distance and is almost 3 times the height of the ship. To give perspective, think of a solid row of 30-story buildings that stretches for 5 miles right in front of us. I find that hard to imagine as well.

Though the Oosterdam has a double hull and could safely approach much closer, Captain Mercer chooses to remain out of the early season's small bergs, heavy slush and sea ice. We don't get much closer than this. Again, the face of the glacier is 300 feet high and 5 miles across and about 10 miles away. Hubbard actually does not stretch the entire distance between the headlands on either side. There's a second glacier entering from the left - it appears "dirtier" because of the rock debris visible on top of it from this angle.
