The Adelaide Botanic Gardens in South Australia, dates back to the mid 1800s. It features a rainforest conservatory, a historic palm house and a duck pond. New features are a Mediterranean garden and a cactus and waterlily pavilion.

Schlumbergera Bridgessi. A most attractive plant that starts to bloom in late November. There are several variences of colour, but this is our preference. The blossoms appear at the ends of the segmented branches and droop 'fuchsia' like.

Night-Blooming Cereus, Peniocereus gregii. This Cactus is native to the Sonoran Desert, and only blooms one night a year. The flowers open in the early evening and begin closing with the morning sun. The musky fragrance is wonderful!

I love to take these close-up shots, since I never had a camera before which could do it. Well, and it's spring around here and I have to write about 100 pages for my studies of social work, so I needed some spring on my desktop...

On my way to my second place of work I see them since years, but never I saw they had fruits! :-) My search found out, that the fruit is even eatable!! They are about 3 meter high, the fruit has 5-7 cm and the flower up to 25 cm in its diameter.
