The alternating rock layers of lime stone and shale are called the Cincinnatian series.The Cincinnatian Epoch is the name given by geologists to the time when our marine fossils lived .The Ordovician geologic period was almost named the Cincinnatian period .Sadly it was the second choice when voted on by scientists in Europe.
