I love Church architecture and old graveyards so I thought I would start with some close to home where I have ancestors buried from 200-300 yrs ago. I have also started to includesome historic houses of England.

This beautiful old church began life as a chapel, it was later enlarged (c. 1319) and became home to Benedictine monks. King Edward II stayed there for 2 weeks in 1323. It changed & declined over the years and eventually passed to local people as a Chapel of Ease c1536 with Wigan Parish Church the mother church. The grave of highwayman George Lyon can be found in the graveyard, he was hung at Lancaster Castle in 1815.
I have a number of ancestors buried in the churchyard but have only been able to locate 2 graves to date.
