This is me in my Ike Jacket wondering what the Hell I had gotten myself into. Basic at Carson was pretty tough, all the Cadre were WW2 and Korea Vets and loved to fall us out for a surprise 5 mile run (did not bother me as I had just recently run the mile and 880 in High School but some of the older guys had a hell of a time) in the evenings. The weather was very, very cold and lots of snow while we were there, no days off for bad weather, 5 soldiers were killed at Fort Carson (not in my Co.) while I was there.......Bill Strouse E Co. 47th Inf.
