Although recognizably a Corvette, most of the Z06's body panels are unique, as are its engine, frame, suspension details, wheels and tires. The high-tech carbon-fiber fenders, wheelhouses and floor panels may wrap around the same basic chassis, but the aluminum frame and magnesium engine cradle have elevated it to exotic-car levels of advanced vehicle design, all while shaving 50 pounds off the base model's curb weight. No T-top here with removable roof panels. The Z06's roof is fixed in place to save mass and increased structural rigidity.

Powering the Z06 is a hand-assembled 7,000-rpm 7.0-liter (old school translation = 427 cubic inches) normally aspirated small-block V8 called the LS7. It's an all-aluminum engine filled with exotic engineering and parts. Horsepower and torque are a mind-bending 505-hp and 470 lb-ft, and it's all routed to the Vette's massive 19-inch rear tires through a six-speed manual transaxle.
