Very sadly, Galen and Barbara Rowell passed away in a plane crash on August 11, 2002. I feel fortunate to have briefly met these inspiring individuals and hope you will be entertained by this story.

On Labour Day Weekend I climbed White Mountain (14,228') near Bishop CA with my girlfriend Shannon, Megumi Hoover, a French visitor Marie-Elene, and several unicycling friends including Nathan Hoover, Bruce Bundy, Bronson Silva and Geoffrey Farahagn. On the ascent a person ran quickly past us, and it turned out to be Galen Rowell!. Galen is legendary for both mountaineering and photography and has an insanely high energy level.
