As with most capital cities, this is the telecommunication tower. It was conceived "to improve the quality of telecommunication and broadcasting transmission in the country". Its construction, which began in Oct. 1991, culminated with the installation of the Antenna Mast (in Sep. 1994) by YAB Dato' Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad, then Prime Minister of Malaysia. Installation of facilities, amenities and final touches soon followed. The tower was however not opened to the public until Jul 1996 and was launched officially later in Oct. 1996 by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
