picture: Boat and Bridge
published by: rjscholten
In the background is the historical Patterson Bridge, constructed in the early 30s and dedicated by Vice President Charles Curtis (Herbert Hoover was President). The bridge was the first of its kind in the United States. The lead engineer for the Oregon Highway Department was C.B. McCollough, who left his mark throughout Oregon by designing exceptional bridges. This particular bridge was famous for using a construction technique developed by a French engineer. With an arched design, the building was built in two segments. The final step was welding rods into the crown space and then filling it with concrete. (dsc_0676nx)
