This is where it all began...Sutter's Mill, where its superintendant, John Marshall, discovered some small gold nuggets in the mill race for the water wheel that powered the saw. This structure is an exact replica of the original, but moved about 100 yards from where a river flood buried the remains of the original's foundation long ago.
