Ha Noi, Ha means river and Noi means within - Ha Noi means within the river. Hanoi personifies the spirit of historic Vietnam in the temples, monuments and pockets of ancient culture along the narrow streets of the Old Quarter.

Lucky to visit a high school friend in Hanoi for the weekend in april. He has been there for 5 years and showed me around the town by motorbike. People were very welcoming towards me. Hanoi is more village than big city, even though country capital.

Perhaps the highlight of our trip was the 2 days we spent on board the Dragon's Pearl in Halong Bay. The scenery, the ship, the cave and the wonderful people we met, were the perfect ending to our holiday in this magical country.

Founded in 1010, Hanoi embodies the spirit of Vietnam's past in its temples, monuments and other historic sites, while at the same time it reflects the country's present with its grand hotels, upscale restaurants and shops.

About a two hour drive from Hanoi is the Perfume Pagoda (Chua Huong), a complex of pagodas and Buddist shrines built into the cliffs of the Huong Tich Mountains (Mountains of Perfumed Terraces), and the only way to get there and back is by boat.
