Scotty's Castle actually belonged to Albert Johnson, a wealthy man from Chicago. Construction began in 1922, and never finished - due to legal and financial problems. Construction cost about $2 million, was bought by NPS for $850,000.

The Slivnica Castle (Burgsleunz) was probably built in the 12. century and was first mentioned in 1428. It was renovated in the XIX century, modelled on the English Neogothic castle style. It has been abandoned in 1990 and waits for renovation.
