A journey back through downtown Hammond's Glory Days. Most of these classic photos came straight from a 1966 Hammond Chamber of Commerce City Guide I found in my basement several years ago. The rest I took as urban decay advanced into the 2000s.

Vogel's and Phil Smidt's - located less than 1/4 mile from each other in the Robertsdale neighborhood of Hammond, Indiana. Both legendary hot spots in their hey days, now only memories. Vogel's closed in the late 90s; Phil Smidt's closed in Oct., 2007.

The original Bridgeton Covered Bridge was destroyed by an arsonist on 4/28/05. It was one of the most popular bridges in Indiana and was the heart & soul of Bridgeton, IN. It has been rebuilt due to an intense labor of love and is as beautiful as before.
