In the 1850's, Alaska and Yukon were swamped with people rushing to find gold in the mountains. In 2003, we cruised up there and saw where fortunes were won and lost. Please view as slideshow and press F11 key for best results.

picture: Juneau Harbor
published by: LoneStarStitcher
We're about to dock. The GP has passed us in the process of a turn that will swing her around the other ship and let her dock at the Franklin Street pier bow facing us. As I'm standing there, two more sea planes land, one right below me, and a jet makes it's final approach to the Juneau airport just beyond the mountain. BTW: There's a lovely quilt/cross stitch shop on Franklin Street only 2 blocks from the main pier.
picture: Approaching the Remote Pier Juneau
published by: LoneStarStitcher
Though it's pretty nippy as we approach by the time I take a mid-afternoon stroll downtown, I'm perspiring and shedding layers. With 5 cruise ships at dock, we get the remote pier - that erector-set contraption on the right. For $3 for an all day pass, you can catch a bus at the pier which drives you to the main docking at this end of the downtown area. Look closely for the sea plane that is landing behind the ship anchored in the harbor.
