At one end of the Duomo's sun calendar is this place on the wall where the low winter sun shines at noon on the winter solstice. Here the sun indeed stops its movement toward the horizon and begins to climb higher in the sky. The sea-goat Capricorn (sign of the wise and noble, as Lee and I can attest) presides over this part of the zodiac.

Most of the length of the Milan Meridian was off-limits due to floor repairs and clearly marked as such. However, some social disobedience is to be expected from boorish Americans with an obsessive need to photograph each of the zodiac signs. Later this same woman was seen to lash out with her expensive German shoe at an innocent pigeon in the Piazza and shout, 'Dirty bird!' in an affected British accent. Tsk, tsk!
