An impressive network of streets arranged in a grid, dating from the Roman period (apparently the early 2nd century CE), was uncovered in Zippori. The street system indicates urban planning typical of important cities in the Roman Empire. Groups of buildings, or insulae, were found between the streets. At the heart of the street system were two colonnaded streets, which intersected to create a kind of a cross. The cardo ran north to south and its cross-street, the Decumanus, ran east to west.
