This is where new recruits arrived after a 16-hour overnight train journey from London. The bus journey to Grigorhill only took a few minutes.

Open from early until late, serving meals, snacks and home-made ice cream, this business was deservedly popular with the service people based around Nairn. It was also the only place in town to buy a Sunday newspaper - the regular newsagents only opened on six days then. The last evening RAF Grigorhill bus would pause outside and hoot three times on its return run from the railway station, and the men and WAAFs would pour out for a lift back on a wet night. On a fine night, some couples would prefer to walk.......
