On the outskirts of Kutná Hora in the village of Sedlec is the All Saints Cemetery Church and Ossuary. According to tradition, at the end of the 13th century, the abbot of the Sedlec monastery brought a handful of earth from the Grave of the Lord in Jerusalem, which he scattered over the cemetery. The cemetery earth became part of the Holy Land and thus burial here became important not only for people from Bohemia, but also from Poland, Bavaria, and Belgium. Thousands were added at the time of the plague epidemic and the Hussite Wars.
