from album: Symi: un'isola bellissima. Un piccolo paradiso terrestre
Symi is a very friendly island with a population of only around 2,500, which has not been spoilt by mass tourism, and still retains the traditional Greek island way of life and hospitality.

Symi is one of Greece’s best kept secrets. The island lies 40 kms north west of Rhodes in the Dodecanese, and is approximately 13 kms in length and 9.5 kms across at its widest point. The long deep harbour is like an amphi-theatre, with multi coloured two and three storey 19th century neo-classical grand old houses of the former sponge trading merchants, and churches with coloured domes tiered up the steep hillsides.

Monastery of the Archangel Michael at Panormitis, Symi, the island's most famous monastery. The original church of St. Michael was built around 450 AD on the site of an ancient temple to Apollo. It contains a splendid icon of the Archangel.
