picture: Lower Falls and Rainbow from Red Rock Point at Yellowstone
published by: paul_fernandez
The 308ft (99m) Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River is arguably (with the possible exception of Old Faithful Geyser) the icon or signature image symbolizing Yellowstone National Park. Red Rock Point is at the end of a steep and demanding trail which plummets from its parking lot on the north rim drive. This trail is definitely not recommended for persons with cardiac, pulmonary, or ambulatory problems. It does, however, offer an unparalleled view and feel of the falls. A different perspective may be gained from the Brink of the Lower Falls Viewpoint which may be seen here on the right side of brink of the falls. A close inspection will reveal what appear to be dots, but are in fact people.
picture: Panorama of the Yellowstone Canyon Downstream from the Lower Falls
published by: paul_fernandez
This panorama was constructed using Photoshop Elements to stitch together horizontally two images captured from Artist Point. Here the canyon is about a mile deep and displays how it got its name: from the color of the mineral deposited on its sides by the geothermal activity which still continues. Artist Point is a relatively short and easy walk from its parking lot at the end of south rim drive. On a ridge to the right of the falls can be seen the red rock which gives Red Rock Point and its associated viewpoint their names.
