Once one of Rhodes' ancient and important cities, Lindos grew to prosperity under the Knights of St. John. So much of medieval Lindos has survived that it has been declared a national landmark.

3000 years of history, an incredible landscape. Here Cleoboulos, one of the seven sages of ancient Greece lived and ruled. While Rome was a small Etruscan village ,Lindos was a centre of civilized life, or art and culture. When the Hellenistic and Byzantine world fell to the Saracen invasions , the knights of St.John occupied the island. They fortified the Acropolis, incorporating the old Byzantine church which is still visible. The temple of LINDIA Athena was built by Cleoboulos in 550 B.C. and rebuilt in the 3rd century B.C. in the form you see today. The Apostole Paul was ship-wrecked at Lindos, founded the Rhodian church, and gave his name to St.Paul's Bay.
