Loch Leven Castle is most famous as the place where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned for almost a year in 1567. She was then forced to abdicate in favour of her young son James VI. Other famous visitors included William Wallace and Robert the Bruce.

The church of St.Michael in Linlithgow,Fife, was consecrated in 1242. There had been a church on this site for over 100 years prior to that. The church was defiled in 1301 by King Edward I of England who stabled his horses inside. It regained its dignity

Inchmahome Priory dates from 1238 and was built on an island in the Lake of Mentieth quite close to Stirling. It is now part of the Trossachs National Park. All of the other Augustinian monasteries were also in this central part of Scotland.

East Linton is a fascinating village that lies on between Edinburgh and Dunbar. It has some incredible history, but most visitors see little other than Preston Mill which they'd arrived here for.

Greenknowe Tower is an attractive four storey L shaped tower house built in 1581. It still has its original iron gate. The ground floor kitchen retains its vaulted roof, but from the first floor hall upwards the tower is roofless. The spiral stair goes as

Neidpath Castle is situated just outside Peebles in the Scottish Borders. Externally it is in very good condition, but many of the internal parts are in serious need of restoration. There are some interesting tapestries etc on display inside.
