Wat Po (also known as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha) is the oldest and largest temple in Bangkok and is considered the first university of Thailand. It's still the national headquarters for the teaching and preservation of traditional Thai medicine.

Bangkok, called "Krung Thep" in Thai, means City of Angels. It was established in 1782 when King Rama I moved the capital to the east side of the Chao Phraya River, thereby using the river as a natural line of defense against the ever-threatening Burmese.
