This 1847 Greek Revival courthouse incorporates the walls of the original 1762 courthouse. In 1780, Loyalist James Moody raided the courthouse, freeing a British soldier and several local tories imprisoned in its basement. The courthouse in Newton is the only colonial site in New Jersey on its original site and fronting a town green.
